My Morgan and Peace $1's

image Just got these "In Hand" yesterday. I thought I'd post them here to get some thoughts. All have original lustre and look to be never cleaned? Where can I find VAM info for these? Thanks in advance for any positve, or negative, comments! Got to take the bad with the good to keep the learning curve moving in a positive directionimage Lee

  • I would return the 34. It has been cleaned.

I would return the 21 also. The marks on the cheek make it a AU-58 coin in my opinion and the 21 is a common date. You can find nice MS-63's at a good price and will have much better luster then that coin.

Your seller's pictures hide a whole bunch of problems. If he/she has a return policy, I would would use it. The 1922 has a nice die break, but I think those are common and don't bring much of a premium. In my opinion you did not get what you paid for, their pictures are very misleading.

I agree with Cameron. Overall, the 34-D is a horrible coin for the money yo paid. The 21-S is not the greatest, either. The 22, on the other hand, looks nice and that die crack is a common one.

To answer your question about VAMS, go to www.ashmore.com for the VAM updates. Pick up the VAM book 4th edition for VAM info. You can buy it on eBay for $46.00 or so.

Both the 21-S and 34-D dollars have problems. The 22 Peace dollar is OK, but the most common silver dollar.

By the way, I'm confused. Wasn't it you that had a post on the BST selling your entire collection? Did things turn around for you?

image Thanks Guy's. These are going back. Excelsior on eBay is the Seller. They are also found at www.web-gems.com. Appreciate your help, Lee
  • Stick with slabbed coins while you learn Lee. It will save a lot of time and effort returning coins and it will be easier for you to sell if the time comes. You can buy those coins slabbed for around the same price and they will be problem free.

  • The good: 1922 Peace $ looks like an MS-64 to me

The bad: the 1921-S looks AU-58

The ugly: the 1934-D looks cleaned so I would grade it NET EF-40

image Yes Eric. Things have gotten better for me here very recently. I still have to be very, very, careful. I'm not out of the woods just yet. Thanks for asking! Lee

That's good, glad to hear it. I hate seeing a collector who is forced to sell his coins.

I'm also glad to hear you can send those two dogs back, and excelsior has been the subject of many conversations.
