Quit picking on us hockey collectors!

What's going on here? Hockey must be about 5% of the sportscard hobby but anytime we get a lively discussion going on vintage hockey, it gets pulled? I personally don't mind sheet cut cards in certified holders. It's not like I'm going to walk down to my local card shop and find anything at all to buy in terms of vintage hockey. I have unaswered questions from PSA about grading 1969 OPC insert booklets myself. Being ignored can be frustrating perhaps it's time to hire someone to answer these technical questions on a full time basis. Previously, I thought these boards were supposed to be an avenue for added insight into the collecting world.

As far as I can see, ZSZ70 did not say anything bad about PSA or anyone.
All he did was inform collectors about it since Joe O.
did not follow up on this trimming issue. In an SMR article a year ago, Joe O. stated that card
trimming was a very important issue to PSA. ZSZ70 contacted Joe O. about it and received no response.
I understand that Joe did not return his email. I remember emailing Brian Burke when he was President of the Vancouver Canucks, and he responded within 3 hours. I think I was thanking him for trading Pavel Bure at the time.

Instead of removing him, you should have addressed the
issue. PSA shows no concern to the collector by the
actions it is taking. And finally, I feel you are picking on us hockey collectors when we are already enduring the NHL lockout, so why rub it in?
The first person in the PSA universe to complete the 1969 OPC
Hockey set! Always looking to buy, trade or upgrade 1966 Topps to 1969 OPC.

  • I would guess that Mr Z2Z70 harassed the wrong person and PSA took care of him or that he is coming out defaming PSA saying they grade trimmed cards without proof beyond the shadow of a doubt.. I wouldn't call that very wise since this is PSA's message board. If someone came to your house and said you were unethical and dishonest, how quickly would you ask this person to leave? If PSA removed them for either of those two reasons above, I applaud them. They did the right thing taking out the trash.

I didn't get the sense that anybody was saying PSA was unethical or dishonest. I think it may have been implied that those cutting the sheets and submitting them were not necessarily abiding by high ethical standards. Similarly, the implication may have been that PSA just isn't aware of what's going on.

Hockey collectors - and hockey fans in general - are a passionate bunch. We love the game. We love the cards. I know this is essentially a private forum, but it is a little disheartening when reasonable discussion of issues that really are important to us are stifled. I don't know if the thread started by the PSA ID was legit or not, but the original post's insinuation that our concerns weren't sincere and were just more PSA bashing was a virtual slap in the face to the hockey card cult.

  • 1971-72 OPC Checklist #264 PSA 9 1/1 just listed on ebay . Suprise its from the boys from Oregon
  • Yeah I saw it and was dumb enough to put a bid on it, but I know I will get out bid on it.
  • I rarely post here anymore, however I read the forums daily hoping to find an informative hockey thread such as this. It's truly a shame that so many valuable board members are being banned for bringing valuable info to light.

We should all change our icon's to sheep.

    Have a great day...

Well said, Rob. I also rarely post here anymore, but I still consider these boards a great source of information and education.

I realize it is PSA's board and they can run it as they see fit, but when threads are simply removed without any notice or explanation, it serves nobody. But it does add to one's suspicion that perhaps something is trying to be kept from public knowledge.

I learned more about how to identify sheet cut cards from that single thread than in all my years of collecting.
