Grading services at FUN? Do they....

.... tend to rush the coin through, especially with the 4 hour turn around?

Is the coin given a fair shake if it's on the line of the next grade?

I am curious because I plan on bringing a few coins I feel have a good shot at upgrading and don't want to waste my money. What are others experiences with grading at past FUN shows? Are coin upgrades easier or harder?

Anybody no if the cleaners from across the street will be there? or do they not offer that service at shows.

Thanks,
Randy

You will pay premiums for getting the coins done at the show. In the past it's been on the order of $125 per coin so be prepared. It costs less if you let them take the coins home.

As for what kind of shake you get at the shows, I've heard some people say that the grading tends to be more conservative. I've also heard votes the other way. Still given the added expense, you either need to be submitting an expensive coin, or you need the coin graded quickly for some reason.

I don't think that NCS does their thing at shows. You have to leave the coin with NGC to get those services.

    Thanks again Bill,

The coins I think have a good shot jump quite a bit for the next grade.A couple others I want to cross. Pete looked at a few at the Clearwater show and thought some justified the higher grade and crossing. They are also coins I am thinking about letting go in order to buy others on my want list. I was kinda hoping the graders were a little loser at the shows, of course.

  • I have about 25 coins to submit. All but one will go to NGC. PCGS has priced themselves out of my market. I will submit the free quarterly coin to PCGS...I have paid for that right. That will probably be my last submission. Greed does not go well at my house.image

One thing I did discover is that some of the companies will give you an “opinion” of the coin and the grade if you can get the dealer to let you walk it over for a look. I found the grading to be more conservative.
