A nice score for someone

A year and a half ago, this coin sold for $80k plus the juice at Stacks' sale of the Rudolf Collection as a PCGS PR65. After upgrading at NGC to PF66, the price realized was $150k plus the juice. Nice to double one's money for one point on the plastic!

Good grief, now the seller can go out and buy two of them. TDN were you able to see this coin in person?

Yes. It was pretty ... but had too many hairlines to cross IMO.

When I first looked at it a couple of weeks ago, I thought I spied alot of hairlining.

  • Stuff like this amazes me. First off, why didnt the SECOND owner buy it in the first place, and secondly: Looks like NGC is getting just as much respect as PCGS. That is good for the market as a whole, but I still am amazed at how many coins have realized double or more prices realized in such a short period.

I've had a few of those 50% deals with some of my coin purchases.

And, if I keep losing all that money I'm going to have to find another hobby.

Scarce coin, attractive color. But IMO, someone bought a very expensive piece of plastic. Shouldn't see a lot of hairlines on PF 6 coins. Looks like NGC wanted that one in its holder; even if I had the $, I'd pass.

  • TDN, et. al. - I'm not in the league of the coin you're talking about, but on my level, this sort of thing happens quite often. I buy a 1949-P Lincoln in an NGC 66RD holder for about $70 or so, and if I think it's good enough, I crack it, submit to PCGS ($30 grading fee plus P/H/I), and if it comes back a PCGS 66RD. I slap it on flea-bay and it goes for $290 or so. I'm in for about $110, and net $280! Double your money, double your fun!! If it comes back a 65 - AAARRGGGHHH, but I flip it on flea-bay and am only out a few bucks.

Usually, I don't like it, so I just list it right back on ebay and maybe lose a few bucks. But, if I think it'll cross, and it does, I make out nicely. Been doing this for three/four years now and it's nice overall!!

Haven't done it with the kind of high dollar coins y'all are talking about, but on the lower value, more common stuff, it has worked for me.
