The porosity and the rim dent would get it bagged. You'll have better luck with ANACS. Nice coin by the way.
I've had great transactions with people like: drwstr123, CCC2010, AlanLastufka, Type2, Justlooking, zas107, StrikeOutXXX, 10point, 66Tbird, and many more!
It's interesting how many of the Rasmussen collection coins were "no grades" at NGC, including many condition census specimens. The EACers seem to have a refreshing disdain for the TPGs.
Thanks for your posts and votes, I can see a trend and the Bag-its are winning! I'd be foolish to send it in then. In your collective opinion is it worth sending a coin like this to ANACS just to have a net grade applied to it? Would you bother sending it?
es it would get body bagged. It i still a fairly nice coin though. It is either an S-182, 183, or 184. 182 is scarce, 183 is rare, and 184 is common. Unfortunatly I am at work and don't have my attribution notes with me so I can't tell which it is.
Ok, checked the books and it is an S-184, the common variety. Still a very decent piece though. And it doesn't have a really high Condition Census. The 16th finest known is a VF-35.
I'd say almost certainly it would get bagged. It would get bagged for sure if it were a later coin, but the TPGs are a bit more lenient with 18th century coinage.
I don't think they'd be THAT lenient, though. To ANACS with this one.
I have some large cents in similar condition. Every once in a while, I like to take them out and actually hold them. I would not holder the coin. You will enjoy it more outside the holder, it is unlikely you will damage it, and the buyer of such a coin will not care if it is holdered. Frankly, as a potential buyer, I would rather buy the coin raw than in a holder that is "dissing" the coin ("corroded", "scratched", etc.).

Still a really nice coin.

You're wrong, Cammie. Clearly it's no more than a 97.3% chance.
