I noticed I have about 5 different types of Binny inserts. Conder or keifer you got anything on this?
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

  • Binny as in Binnion?

Thats conder101's territory and I think he has a list with pictures.

I believe I have three NGC varieties listed. What have you got?

Ok my Slab Book isn't updated.
#1 Numerical grade, barcode 1/8" above lower green border
#2 Numerical grade, barcode 1/64" above lower green border
#3 Numerical grade, barcode touching lower green border. Lower green border is thicker then normal; 3/16" instead if the usual 1/8".
#4 No numerical grade but rather "BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED" (NGC9N1)
And of course the NCS authenticated but not graded holders.

I own a Binnion 1921 in NGC (green insert) GD06. It's my understanding it's the only low grade circulated Binnion slabbed that has the grade on the insert. All the others have the Binnion insert with no grade that are low grade.
I need to do a bit more research, but so far it appears the NGC Pops reflect that.

I'll post photos of it this weekend. I originally purchased it because I believe it's a low pressure strike because although it has "GD06" details, it has full raised rims and what appears to be a bit of luster.

  • I wouldn't put much faith in the positioning of the barcode above the border. Since the barcode and coin information is printed on the preprinted label that has the border and the cowboys underprinting it can drift around a little depending on how well centered the labels are in the printer or how well they feed. The thicker bottom border may be a possiblity as long as the text remains centered and the top border doen't get thinner. That's because the printing of the border and the underprint can also drift a little. For that reason the border is actually a little larger than the final label. If it drifts up the bottom border would be thicker, the text on the border would be closer to the top edge than the bottom, and the top border would be thinner than normal.

The use of the numeric grades and the adjective grades could be a significant enough difference to be seperate varieties. Can we come up with examples of MS nemerical grades?

My seperation was based on the text on the bottom label border. 9N1 says Binioncollection.com 9N1a says Binion Silver Hoard. I was thinking there was a third one as well that isn't in the book that I don't at my fingertips. I think it was BinionHoard.com

There is another very similar slab that uses the same border and underprinting but the border says Nevada Silver Hoard. They come from a different large hoard that turned up at the same time as the Binion hoard (also discovered in Nevada.), but is is mostly Walking Liberty halves.

And of course the NCS Binion slabs, but those are a"different" company.
