Tough decision - Sell the 1909-s VDB or 1955 double die

I have a tough decision to make. I have my eyes set on a nice 18th century PCGS graded $5 gold coin, but I need to sell ONE of my two pennies to come up with the additional cash. The one coin is a stunning 1909-s VDB graded MS65-RB by PCGS while the other is a 1955 double die graded MS64-RB by PCGS. I don't want to sell EITHER of them , but I don't want to let this beautiful $5 gold coin get away from me either!
So, what what would YOU do? IF you were to hold just one of these two coins for at least another 20-30 years (or longer if passed along to children), which one would you keep -- the 1909 or 1955 coin? My thought is to stay with the 55 double die, but I believe the 1909-S VDB has appreciated more over the last 3 years than the double die. A tough choice....thanks in advance!!

Else, I'd keep the one with the best eye appeal.

It's easy to replace. I just dumped all of my gold so I could buy a 1795 Flowing Hair Dollar. The gold can be replaced when the price drops.
EASY coin to replace. An attractive 55 and a redbrown one is a tough cookie, assuming yours is attractive.
You could get a loan somewhere if you really want the gold. You could also work with the seller for a payment plan.

Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
<< <i>Sell the SVDB... there are tons of those around, including many in higher grades. It is much more easily replaceable. >>
That's what I'd say.....Svdb's are everywhere. Try to find another 64 DDO......

We'll use our hands and hearts and if we must we'll use our heads.
I vote sell the 1909-S VDB!

absolute best investment. WRONG. Sell the common VDB, regardless. They're really overpriced for what they are, and
the 55 is a really interesting coin. The VDB fills a hole--big deal.

<< <i>the reasoning that there are "lots of svdb's available" is interesting. i said dump the 55 because it's really not a natural part of the lincoln series, while the s-vdb is.

They may very well be true but its not the only reason folks collect cents or any other coinage for that matter. The coin is highly coveted among a lot of smart collectors.
18th Century gold is the coolest.

good point. guess i pretty much always look at it from the perspective of completing a series or set....

While I have not finalized my decision, I'm still leaning toward selling the 09s-vdb. I think the "eye appeal" of the SVDB is better than the 55DD, but I think the "coolness" and rarity of the 55DD offsets that. As many have noted, it IS tough to find a 64RB DDO, though I also spent several years finding what I think is a high-quality 65RB sVDB. The SVDB is close to RED, but I have not sent it in to PCGS to regrade as a number of dealers told me "not to waste my time and money" at a recent coin show since upgrades from PCGS are "next to impossible" to get.
I tried uploading both obverses of both coins, but I received a message saying the file was too large -- dang! Any thoughts as to how I can easily post pics of both of these coins? I do NOT have a website (hard to believe).
Hoping to buy my 2nd 18th century gold coin soon....

If I were you, I'd let the SVDB go. It is much more common than the 55-DDO, and should be an easy coin to find a replacement for. Now paying for it is another matter.

sorry...
I would keep the 55, just beucase I think its one of the coolest lincolns out there. Most lincoln collectors have a 09 vdbs, but few can say they have a NICe 55

As far as future price appreciation, the 55DDo will out perform the 09-s vdb in years to come IMO. Even though the 09-s vdb has had some strong price gains in the past few years, it will begin to soften as they are overpriced in most grades including your 65RB currently.
