They've got to keep the stock holders happy. I guess this is a new way to get some people collecting slabs. It won't take long before some schmoes out there will collect "First Strikes" only. Whatever...
You can bet these will show up on the shopping networks soon.

I found this statement on the Tulving site, and I wonder if it's true:
"IMPORTANT INFO- "First Strike" Is Now A Registered Trademark Of PCGS/Collectors Universe And Can NOT Be Used To Describe A Non PCGS 2005 Gold, Silver Or Platinum Eagle."
"It's far easier to fight for principles, than to live up to them." Adlai Stevenson
The question is we are 6 days into the month/year- has the mint released any coins as of this date? Are they all going to PCGS to be designated as 'FIRST STRIKE'? Did not know PCGS had that much power with the mint officials- is that not considered collusion?
Catchy title or name invented to make you believe something, even though you know better. It's flashy marketing and I am sure some of the purists are going to be upset and start sending all their coins somewhere else to get slabbed. This is their chance-look out for ICG, their movin' on up!!!
Satisfaction lies in the effort, not in the attainment. Full effort is full victory. -Gandhi
In a similar news story, "Professional Coin Grading Service" is expected soon to be renamed. The new name that has been selected is "Coin Grading Service" or CGS.

<<<some of the purists are going to be upset>>> Darn right!! The actual first strikes would be setup strikes so that is not the first coin struck by that die. Prolly like the 40th or 50th strike.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
kieferscoins seys: Guys: THAT IS NOT A REAL PCGS SLAB LABEL! Well to be honest with you I don't even think it's a real auction by a real seller using the real Post Office either. $15.95 Priority Mail FOR SHIPPING?? GIVE ME A BREAK!!! I'm not a real dealer either and I can ship it Insured First Class for $4-$5. Everybody knows you can ship Priority Mail for $7.70.

Yes they wee supposed to start shipping out the first Bullion coins on the 3rd, and only the bullion coins wll be getting the "First Strike" labels. I feel like trying to find the doggiest silver eagle I can and sending it in for a "First Strike" designation.
What I am wondering is the effect of the registry sets on this.... Will PCGS start making a spot for them, with FIRST STRIKE? I imagine they will be treated like the "heroes" set where it can take the place of that year's coin but is not mandatory????
The same gimmicky picture. I'd like to really see it in person. Look at the barcode. Its not even real. I still doubt that the slabs really look like that. Looks like we will have to wait and see.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
Wouldn't that be the "Worst Strike" designation?

That's right, nothing. The point is it's a gimmick that's unworthy of PCGS. The appearance of the label is irrelevant.
