Name change announced today. I personally think it sounds lame. I assume the Angels are counting on fans dropping the "of Anaheim" part over time which is why the city is suing.
<< <i>Angels Baseball announces official name change
ANAHEIM -- Angels Baseball Monday announced the team has changed its official name to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. This change is effective January 3, 2005.
The inclusion of Los Angeles reflects the original expansion name awarded by Major League Baseball in December 1960 and again returns the Angels as Major League Baseball's American League representative in the Greater Los Angeles territory that Major League Baseball expects the team to serve.
The Los Angeles region, which is comprised of Orange, Los Angeles, Ventura, San Bernardino, and Riverside Counties, is the second largest media market in the country. This name change will strengthen the Angels' long-term economic health by enhancing the marketability through this metropolitan area and beyond.
Angels Baseball and the "A" brand will continue to be the marketing focus of the organization and Angels Stadium of Anaheim remains the home of the 2004 defending American League Western Division Champions.
The Angels have enjoyed tremendous success in Anaheim, highlighted by a World Championship in 2002. The organization will continue to work closely with the City of Anaheim in promoting the Anaheim community, Angel Stadium of Anaheim, and the Angels' baseball experience.

Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
if we have the
A. New York Jets
B. New Jersey Jets
C. New York Giants
D. New Jersey Giants
Both teams play in New Jersey.
I think fans just call them the Jets and Giants.
Moreno is doing almost all the right things- getting a good manager and general manager, bankrolling a good, solid team, dropping beer prices by a buck (as soon as he bought the team) and generally showing a lot of the class the O'Malley's did when they had the Dodgers (except the part about bailing on Brooklyn and stealing land from low income LA immigrants in a back room deal). But if they want to be called the LA Angels they'd better be in L.A., not some runaway strip mall down the freeway an hour.
Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's
Now they get to have both LA and Anaheim and agreed, it's just awful.
That's gonna look sweet on a uniform with LAAA on the hat!

Moreno removed Anaheim from the uniforms last season....Anaheim has been removed from their website and all letterheads etc.
He (Moreno) wants to reach out to the Latino fan!..last season he had special busses driving through Santa Ana and other Latino strongholds. If that's what he wants, then take the team to Mexico City

Is reaching out to what has become the majority of Southern Californians bad? I figured it was good business.
Other than this somewhat dorky thing he's been a good owner. The more people who see games can only mean more revenue for the team, which in this case they have been quick to put back into improving the lineup. But I guess there is a certain element that will always look at the person next to them and feel threatened.
