The reason I say that this is the cause of PVC, is because I have about 20 similiar wheat cents, that have toned similiar to this one, and have characteristics all the same, such as the date, liberty, and IGWT have a dark vibe to them, all were simply taken out of a PVC dripping 2x2, wiped with a cloth, and put in a pvc safe 2x2, and various other storage methods, as to experiment a bit. I may take a scan later to compare.
It's real toning, and frankly it's obviously real. Those of you who thought it was AT need to spend a little more time scrounging in the bargain sections at coin shows. This color is actually pretty common on Lincolns, and comes from the paper backing in Whitman folders when the coins have been stored in the right environment over a long period of time.

Here is another with simillar toning. These coins all came from a hoard of rolls and they were stored in paper rolls and then plastic tubes for many years. This roll of coins is being donated to the tsunami disaster fund auction. There are a few of them in there with the purple tone.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
sometimes actone can couse copper to change colors
or MS70 rinced with warm water will cause a purple toning!
