I got this one at the Dedham show in MA......Looks much nicer in person. My settings seem to be screwed up on my camera again. Lets hear your thoughts......New pictures! PCGS says MS65

Only way to look as close to natural was to make larger images.

Lighting is my issue. Coin has nice cameo on both sides and very clean fields. It has a very good shot at DMPL,

  • MS64.......I say no shot at DMPL, but without holding it in my hand that just an opinion from what I can see on the scan.

    Brian: Very nice 1881-CC image

I agree with JGM that from the photo provided it appears to be an MS-64 Semi-PL with some cameo contrast between the frosty devices and the Semi-PL fields.

From your photos there appears to be too much cartwheel luster in the fields for the coin to go DMPL, but based on your description perhaps the coin has a shot at PL -- although I can't see it from the photos.

That's a nice one, very well struck. From what I have seen lately, that has a very good shot at MS65 at PCGS.

Very pretty, I'd say 64 baised on the pics. The fields do show some reflection but does'nt look quite PL in these pics.

I think you have a solid 64. Nice coin.

From the pictures-it looks like a high 64, shot 65 to me.
  • I'd guess it's a semi-pl MS-64 that's very high end and has had $90 spent on resubmission fees already at PCGS!

Tough to say in that light. 64PL, maybe, with a shot at 65? Hard to say.
  • Here's my 65 for comparison.

    MS-64.

You might see overgraded ones in MS-65 holdlers that look like this. If PCGS and NGC issues enough of these overgraded pieces, the bids will be depressed as they have been for other series when the gradings has been "degraded."

Very cool! Seems PCGS uses a more liberal grading scheme on cc's. If it were an 80-s, it would never make it out of a 64 holder but as a cc it's a 65. Have you seen what the 85-cc's in 65 look like?

Do not go by the photo. I had several people at the coin show I bought it at say maybe MS66. When I get the coin back I will post better pic with my new digital camera.

You got that right, I've seen some real dogs in 65 holders. This coin though, I think it deserves the grade. It's a nice looking coin.

Thanks K6AZ! I feel it is more than solid for the grade.
