I was at a show and a dealer was showing me a Texas commem in EF and he tells me that the coin "has not been played with" and it
sounded like a pitch he used with every coin so I didn't want to encourage it so I passed.

With toning: Charcoal! Teletrade uses this one. Stay away from the charcoal coins. Is burnt wood ever a good thing to see?

"Average strike" meaning it is flat as can be.

Large two page ads in "Coin World" with NOT ONE certified coin among the offerings. That's a sure fire indicator that the seller is using a "unique personal grading system" that will have you bending over and grabbing your ankles for a good old fashioned image.

Well, almost all. In some "third world" certification holders, it's a lock that a "PR-70" has nowhere to go but down. image

Yes, ORIGINAL, circulated old silver will have a gray color. It is an acquired taste. Most new collectors don't like it; many advanced collectors come to love it. It's part of acquiring an "eye" for purchasing better quality coins …
