$1 Million for a 1933 $10 Indian & Rolled Edge?

Do you think a Rolled Edge in MS67 which was in a NGC MS67 holder two months ago and sold for $270k and a 1933 $10 in MS65 are worth $1 million?

I just got my new issue of Coin World and that is the asking price.

Do you mean each or together (I don't have CW so I don't know)?

If it's "each" then: Unless someone is dumb enough to pay the asking price how can a coin sold for $270K two months ago be worth $1 million today?

Hell, even together (assuming they are both priced at $500k) that is quite a jump for two months.....

Given the current market, which now getting a bit overheated, that price might be in line now, but who knows about the future?

There are 40 to 50 rolled edge, periods 1907 $10 gold coins known. For the 1933 the population is something like 30 to 40 coins. These two pieces represent the beginning and the end of the $10 gold Indian business strike series, and as such they have some important history behind them. They are also in high grade. The Rolled edge coins were struck for circulation, but the mint decided that the relief was not right and melted almost all of the 31,550 minted. 312,500, 1933 eagles were struck, but then Roosevelt's gold surrender order resulted in the melting of almost all of those coins.

On the Sheldon rarity scale, both coins are rated as R-5 (30 to 75 known). In the old days that rarity rating translated into a situation where the coins were hard to find, but a seriously interested collector with the cash could count on finding one if he looked hard enough. The rarity of these coins in not line with some other major rarities in the U.S. series that have brought similar prices. Recently the finest known of four Strawberry Leaf cents brought $414,000. As such one might question the million dollar price tag.

I'll put it this way. If I had a net worth of $10 million, I'd pass on this deal. I think that tying up 10% of my assets in these two coins would be too risky.
