Yours truly, courtesy of his beloved wife, finally has a good digital camera with macro capabilities ... can't wait to start playing around with coins. Happiest of holidays to all ...

Six new additions to my numismatic library:

"Guide Book to the Coinage of Ireland, 995-1969" by Spink & Son (1969)
"The Coins of Mexico, 1536-1963" by Utberg (1963)
"German Church and City Talers, 1600-1700" by Davenport (1967)
"An Outline of Ancient Greek Coins" by Klawans (1964)
"Early Half Dollar Die Varieties" by Overton (1967)
"United States Early Silver Dollars from 1794-1803" by Bolender (1950)
    When in doubt, don't.

Parents gave Trish and me a new large safe with keys and electronic key pad. Stands about Three feet high, and is to heavy for me to move by myself. So it's still at my parents until sometime this week. I have not even pulled it out of the box yet to look inside it yet.

Trish gave me two new loops, that I have yet to really use yet. Since the dogs chewed my other one up about 6 months ago, I was pretty excited about these. She also gave me a sweet 1873 3c in AU. It's nice but I think it's going back to her for her type set.

Brother returned all of my foriegn currency that he stole from me years ago, that I accumalated from my years in the Navy. I was able to enjoy them for about 5 seconds until Trish then stole them from me, to add to her collection.

Me - I gave Trish the new currency book (Can't remember the exact name) But it covers all world notes from 1960 - current, and is as thick as a phonebook (I think it's by Krause). I also gave her a few world bank notes, including that old Mexican 10 Peso note that the forum helped me find.

    Merry X-Mas all

The only numismatic related item that I found "under the tree" was the Fourth Edition of Russell Rulau's U.S. Token book. It was about time for a new one because the last one I had was the second edition from some years ago. The Civil War section in this book is only so-so, but the rest is outstanding. image

I had hoped to add an 1860 Lincoln campaign medalet to my political collection from the Presidential sale in Baltimore. I bid WAY OVER the estimate, but a Grinch out bid my reserve in the auction. image

I guess my Christmas present for this year was this six piece Columbus Quincentenary set in the cherrywood box. This is my latest modern coin "addiction." I hope to eventually get all of these sets which came in the cherrywood boxes over a period of time.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

My niece made me a little trophy of a stickman with a quarter for the head and on the base was printed "World's Best Coin Collector". image
  • That's a nice Columbus set. Those cherry wooden boxes are nice and will be sought after. For Christmas I received an '04 silver proof set and a couple of Intercept shield coin boxes. image

I got a Red Book, which was pretty nice since my last edition was 1999. Don't know if this counts as numismatic related, but the real biggie I got was a Nikon CoolPix 8800 for shooting better images of my coins.
