Story has it when Mr. Mint walked into the old guys house, he produced a couple of '52 Mantle rookies. Mr. Mint like those cards, so the guy invited him into the den, where much to is delight, Mr. Mint found neat little stacks of gem mint Mantles stacked on silver trays.
Now, the best find I every had was when one of my golf buddies said he had some '69-'70 Topps basketball cards. He brought them the next outing. There were two shoe boxes full, all pack fresh mint. After sorting through and separating the off center cards from the good ones, I was left with about a dozen each of Chamberlain, Havlicek, Bradley, Robertson, etc., but, only one Alcindor, meaning Topps must have short printed the Alcindor card that year, forcing the kids to buy more packs to get it.
Anyway, I bet there are some great finds left in the hobby!
Ford puts serial numbers on cards — PSA puts serial numbers on cards. Ford puts locks on cars — PSA puts cards in tamper evident holders. Some Fords get stolen and are tough to trace — Some cards get switched and are tough to detect. Ford has a list of serial numbers of cars produced — PSA has a list of serial numbers of cards graded. Ford would supply that list to help find stolen cars if necessary, why would they not? PSA should supply a list, too, why would they not?
Billa - I have a feeling you'll slide away from answering this question, but why would you come on this board, incessantly repeating incendiary comments that clearly nobody here is listening to, trying to stir up the villagers to burn down the castle?
Question 2: Meaning no disrespect, and I'm sure you're a decent guy with a family, but why don't you just go away and preach your guardian of the people jive with someone who might listen?

First of all, cool icon! I'm putting mine up on icon day, the one day a month you can post an icon!
Okay, you know, if it weren't for the glorious 4th of July, we would all still would be eating crumpetts and sipping tea and walking about with a bunch of ha-ti-das, but that ain't so!
And, perhaps, in retrospect, those basks burned those castles for a purpose.
So, here is the point! And I wish you would understand the point.
If one has a passion for collecting and having fun with baseball cards, it is because, in simplistic form, it is a pure hobby. Now, let's suppose, you were going to buy one of your favorite cards from when you were a kid. You saw it on ebay and you saved your allowance your wife gives you to do such fun and pure things. You bid and win it. Wouldn't you want to know in your own mind that the card is legit and there was a serial number list to compare it to.
Now, if you were doing business with me and buying a card from me, you can rest assured that I would not pass on a card to you without knowing its authenticity. For I would never want anyone accusing me of doing something unethical . . .
Perhaps those basks refusing to burn castles are not serving themselves (the hobby) well.
Now that is just simply rude . . . especially in light that it is the Christmas season and we should all be preaching peace and goodwill towards all. If you do not want to discuss this subject, don't read it. That's your choice. I can go away, but the issue will always be there. And, as a point, what has driven me on this subject is the fact that there is an overriding, overwhelming, undeniable ignorance, or should I say, apathy, of people speaking about it. Admit there is a problem, and I'll drop the subject. Admit it has gone unaddressed, and I'll drop the subject. Admit that those who could fix it turned their backs, and I'll drop it.
<< <i>If you do not want to discuss this subject, don't read it. >>
'We' can't answer your questions. So do the right thing and call PSA. Since you have the 'guts' to come on here and blow your horn, why not call PSA and vent. If you had problems with your 'Ford', would you call the dealership, or complain on a 'chat board'?
I'm sure you'll have some sort of boneheaded response to this too.
My guess is that you're either a current or former agitator of these boards.
Seems to me that you are being the agitator here by making accusations, assumptions. Also seems to me that you have the boneheaded responses. My responses are thought provoking, to the point, based on COMMON SENSE, DUH! And, alas, hard to argue with. The only argument you come up with is name calling.
Now, to the other post of getting 1,000 cards stuck in holders, how would PSA trace them. Again, if this was the case, you are correct. This, however, was not the case. WIWAG was cracking cases and putting inferior cards in cases in which they already had graded serial numbers recorded for their company!
Again, if you don't understand the issue, don't reply. The issue is: IS THERE A WAY TO TRACK THE WIWAG SERIAL NUMBERS AT PSA, YES OR NO! DEAR JOE ORLANDO, GET ON HERE AND EXPLAIN THE YES OR NO ANSWER AND PUT THIS ISSUE TO REST!

1. So, Koby, what issue has been bigger in your thousands of replies you've made? 2. Oh, per your remark, "What makes you think your posts are thought provoking? If you do a search, you will see that this topic has been discussed many time before already." Like your post about your purchase of your 2001 Bowman Albert Pujols set the world on fire with conversation.
And speaking of Koby, for conversation sake. Didn't he commit rape or something in a hotel room. You don't like the subject, so you go after the writer. Makes sense, but that is the way you are.
I have written in the past about the WIWAG issue. I agreed with the majority that PSA had not been forthcoming with the details about the incident. Where were you at that time?
Thank you, Koby, for the honest response and I apologize for being rude. The fact of the matter is I was dying — serious illness — and out of the main stream for a bit. I got sick a month or two after this surfaced and just got back on my feet. Thus, when another member asked if WIWAG was back in business a few days ago, it made me curious, too. Thus, I asked if anyone knew if they were. And I applaud you for stating your views that you were unhappy with the issue.
Well, actually, when you are lying on your death bed you do put things in proper perspective. Like most people, I've done some things in my life I'm not too proud of. When I was kid, about five years old, I used to swipe nickels off my Dad's dresser to buy '60 Topps packs. Also, my business is rested in the trust of the people. Lose that trust and the business is gone. That is why it is important for any business to do what is right to maintain the trust — at any cost.

<< <i>If your car was stolen, would you get mad at ford for not making the car impossible to steal or would you just blame the thiefs? >>
PERFECT ANALOGY!
Why do so many turn their head to this? If, indeed, "the pee is already in the pool," why do you still swim in it?
Shouldn't you be doing something proactive by filtering the pee out? Gee, wake up!
Question 2: Meaning no disrespect, and I'm sure you're a decent guy with a family, but why don't you just go away and preach your guardian of the people jive with someone who might listen?

My comment was not about WIWAG or PSA or Card collecting
in general...
it was about the commercialization of MLB.
Someone said they wished we could
"go back to the days when it was just a game"
and my comment was that you can never ever go back.
Period.
The game is not a game anymore
it is now a multi-Billion dollar a year business
and that is NEVER going to change.
bye.

Ive asked this before, but are there any other topics of interest to you Billa?
Like the moon landing and JFK conspiracies,
WIWAG is really only of interest to paranoid types.
And these folks are usually quite adept at being pugilists of deceased equines.
