What about the coin! Question: Isn't the reverse supposed to be upside down on a U.S. coin, or is it different, for this type of coin? I don't know much about gold coins. Glenn
I had a PCGS MS65 Morgan in a 1st gen holder back in the late 1980's. I could shake the holder for about 7 minutes and the coin could do a 360 degree turn in the holder.
That IS a fake PCGS slab. The coin is almost certainly real. The guy who was doing these was putting real coins in the slabs but was upping the grade on them.

Look again, he obv and reverse are properly oriented 180 degrees apart.
The one that Cameron mentioned that was listed on eBay as a fake slab was also a MS-65 1924 double eagle. I think I would keep an eye out on MS-65 1924 double eagles in rattler holders.
<< <i>That's real close to one another. A company like PCGS should offer to reholder their coins, since they made it so easy to counterfit IMO. >>
I don't know how many people would take them up on that offer because old holders sometimes sell for a nice premium, even if the coin isn't under graded.
Doesn't the story go some guy took MS63 Saints and put them in fake MS65 holders? I didn't know there were many (or any) still out there.
A single thread like this is worth the time it takes to read through these boards. I was aware of fake first generation PCGS slabs and had a 'vague memory' that there was some diagnistic with the serifs. The 'arms length' diagnostic, however, of the position of the 'I' in service, is just tremendous. Easy to remember and 'idiot proof'. Thanks again guys/gals.
