Who has been dropping gold coins into Salvation Army buckets?

Apparently this started in Chicago about 10 years ago, and has spread to a dozen states. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a board member.

"My friends who see my collection sometimes ask what something costs. I tell them and they are in awe at my stupidity." (Baccaruda, 12/03).I find it hard to believe that he (Trump) rushed to some hotel to meet girls of loose morals, although ours are undoubtedly the best in the world. (Putin 1/17) Gone but not forgotten. IGWT, Speedy, Bear, BigE, HokieFore, John Burns, Russ, TahoeDale, Dahlonega, Astrorat, Stewart Blay, Oldhoopster, Broadstruck, Ricko, Big Moose.

People that have the idea in their head to drop gold in the bucket, let me chime in really quick with a reminder. They prefer good, old fashion Checks image

But hey, if it makes you feel better to drop that gold in there, by all means.
  • If I had any gold to give away, then I would not drop in a bucket - I would give it to the main office to make sure that it got there and logged in properly. At that point you can also pick up a receipt to use for your income tax purposes.

Off and on over the years I've rung the bells for them, worked in their kitchen on holidays, donated funds, etc. I now feel very uncomfortable doing anything for them as a result of their position on embryonic stem cell research, which they are against.

It first happened right here in river city, yes my town. I actually think I know who did it. We have a family friend who liked to give to charity, but didn't like the recognition. We also know that the family had plenty of money and it had been rumored that they had "gold coins". The family was a good friend of my mom's. Unfortunately, we never found out the truth before my mom passed away. They were smaller coins like krugerans (spelling) as I remember.
  • The donations are sold here for quite a bit more than buillion prices, and become a donation that keeps bringing further donations. It's been going on for several years here and in several cities around the country.

I'm not sure that it started in Chicago, been going on for quite a while. I wonder if the Y2K gold coin
    purchasers are divesting?

Here's a link on one of the donors in my town; LInk
