Guess The Grade-Proof Morgan-Grade Revealed

Sorry for the glare. Makes it a bit harder to guess the grade, but shows off the wonderful toning.
The scratch on the obverse is on the slab.

And THANK-YOU D.L. !!!! image

As you can see this coin is just a tad undergraded. The first two photos are unedited and appear just as they came from my camera. Just tilted the coin to make the toning pop out.
I grade it PR-63Cam. It could 4 for eye appeal. The obverse has hairlines in the fields which limit the grade. The obverse would also be considered a Cameo.
The reverse is a 66+ DCam. Anything you see in the fields is a slight haziness and not HL's.
A great coin and one I love owning. Where grade doesn't matter. And thanks!!!! to the collector who broke it out of his private stash to sell me. You just don't see Proof Morgans like this very often.

    Prost!

Why step over the dollar to get to the cent? Because it's a 55DDO.

What is money, in reality, but dirty pieces of paper and metal upon which privilege is stamped?
  • Minimim Pr66Cam, I wouldn't be offended by a 67 Cam grade - (that assumes that the photos aren't hiding a bunch of hairlines)

Can't be sure if it's CAM or not due to the light... looks like it could be, though image

Regardless, that is a PRETTY coin! Beautiful!

need some straight-on pics. Can't get an accurate grade off a reflected light image. pretty colors. Probably CAM obv, even more CAM rev.

  • There is no way to tell CAM or DCAM with that pic. That is why I left it blank and just guessed the grade with no designation.

  • I think there are hairlines on that coin. Perhaps I'm imagining it? Anyway I'm going with PR 64 Cam.

  • The color pattern is very similar to the Pr-64 1895 just sold at ANR. Wonder if they were close "friends" at one time?image

I'd certainly buy it for Proof 61 money !

    Its certainly looks PR 63-64.

Are you going to put in a type set or part of a Morgan proof set ?

  • How come hardly anybody does a Proof Morgan Set ?? I think there are 3 guys doing Proof Morgan Sets on the PCGS Registry, but there are over 200 people doing the Morgan MS Sets. Is the Proof Morgan Set harder to do ?? Proof Morgan Dcams, especially the ones with some gorgeous toning, like elwoods 1898 are some of the most beautiful coins out there.

  • << <i>Are you going to put in a type set or part of a Morgan proof set ? >>

No, I just like original Proof Morgans Cam or Dcams. Unfortunately most of the ones that are still original are darkly toned. Which I don't find all that attractive.

    << <i>How come hardly anybody does a Proof Morgan Set ?? >>

I don't know the answer to that question?

<< <i>Is the Proof Morgan Set harder to do ?? >>

I think it is a much harder set to do in problem free condition. So many of the Proof Morgans have been dipped and lost their skins in the process. I always look for original coins and it is quite a task. The originals are usually high grade and expensive and trade at multiples of sheet.
One good example I can think of was a Proof Morgan in an old PCGS MS-63 Rattler holder. The coin was original and Dcam and at best would have 66'd. I went up to $12k and got blown out of the water. It brought somewhere in the neighborhood of $20K. That's over 10X 63 bid.
