You may be right. Personally I'd not bid on raw gold like this. But -- Can you share with us how you know it's fake? The education would be useful.
And while I don't wish a $1,755 fake on anyone, his response to you would alleviate my bad feeling about it by at least a little...
[Edited to add: Looking at the seller's description, it looks like that of a bogus seller to me (and possibly a hijacked eBay ID), but I wonder if there's some diagnostic on the coin you see.]
Reverse wheat kernels also.
And that "swooshy" look to the fields. In hand, it could look different, but those characteristics ...usually...are bad.

3cents - One of the telltale signs is that I am willing to bet you five grand that if you send the coin to PCGS, they will call it a fake. Feeling lucky???

You're right, same coin, different auction. I guess it doesnt matter whether it's counterfeit or not - being as though that's not the coin that your getting anyway.

So many questions...
There's business in Lebanon ain't there?

No, never.
From the tone and subject matter of his reply I'm guessing that he knows the coin isn't real.
If he sells certified coins, then he'd know enough to get that coin certified so he could get top dollar for it.
Actually, he probably tried to get it slabbed already. That's why he would let his "$40000+" coin go for
less than $2000.
