Just because he is asking 50% more then one that sold a couple of months ago (probably the same coin, both PCGS AU58BN), that doesn't mean that is what it is worth. Let's see what the one on heritage sellls for.
This blows my mind. I've always liked the Lincoln pennies since I collected them as a kid (and still have a childhood 22 no D).
But I was a child was long before 1969, and when I resumed coin collecting, I avoided the Lincoln cents because I thought they were too pricey. I never even knew the 1969-S doubled Die obverse existed until about 5 years ago when Warren Mills (Rare Coins of New Hampshire), a little-known but wonderful dealer, phoned me saying something like:
"I know you're not collecting Lincoln's, but I have one here you should take. It's a 1969-S Doubled-Die Obverse, graded AU 58 by PCGS. It's a much harder coin than the 55-double die obverse, and is going to be worth a lot of money."
He said $9,020, and when someone like Warren, whom I totally trust, tells me to take a coin, I almost always do. So I took it with no dickering, stuck it away, and forgot about it.
Then, five years later, I read this thread about the coin. I said to myself: "Don't I have this coin?" So I went to my catalog and there it was: the 1969-S Doubled Die Obverse, graded AU58 by PCGS, for $9,020. And now, a coin in the same grade as mine is being sold for $36,000.
Holy Moley, I have to go thank Warren for that one.
Now, can someone please tell me what a 1909-S VDB graded MS66 RED by PCGS is worth? Warren sold me that one on the same basis (a coin I should have) for about the same price, also some time back. I'm wondering if lightning strikes twice.
Enjoy!

So the S-VDB in MS66 RED sold for $13,750, and the one Warren sent me for $9,000 and change was PQ, so I figure it's worth at least that.
Funny thing. The S-VDB was a penny I lusted after as a kid, and would have bought it if I could have. But back then, it was more than $10 and I couldn't afford it. What a shame, eh? Still, Warren's little coup on this coin makes up for it.
Enjoy!

David Lawrence RC just had this one. Not sure if it actually sold or was transferred over to the weekly Internet auction side?
