Beltre and Sexson. Quite an upgrade for the Mariners. They just better hope Beltre's season was for real.

Beltre is 25, is a legitimate Gold Glove candidate and had those offensive numbers while playing 81 games at Chavez Ravine. He doesn't have to duplicate those numbers. .290/30/100 is just fine coupled with his glove. IMO, he was the plum of the entire FA crop. I am stunned that M's management finally spent some dough. Too bad they didn't do it the season they won 116 games or there might be a pennant and WS banner flying in Safeco right now.
  • Ya think Junior will end his career in Seattle?
    Am I speaking Chinese?

I think it would be a great story for Junior to go back to Seattle and stay healthy for a year or two, but I don't know if that will happen.

    I sure hope not.

Griffey as a DH would be nice. I root for him.

Vargha - agreed on Beltre. I had him in my NL only league however ...

this is awful. My payment is due next month for season tickets and I think I'll just pass. Should be easy to get good seats outside the stadium, or better yet go see a minor league game. They're a lot of fun and the beer is cheaper.
They never should've let McCourt buy the Dodgers- he didn't have the money and leveraged everything. Now they're going to trade Shawn Green? Gagne is going to kill them in arbitration so he'll end up walking when the time comes. And the stadium is literally crumbling.
The Angels are the new Dodgers.

Heard someone say today that the Dodgers have become the SoCal version of the Oakland A's.

Moneyball...instead of overpaying for veterans, trading for younger talent.

McCourt wanted the land that Dodger Stadium sits on. He could give a rat's ass about the team.

McCourt didn't have enough cash equity to buy the team, so Bud and Company changed the rules. Why? Because his old nemesis Peter O'Malley was putting together a bid to buy it back.
Having an owner that doesn't have the capitol to run the team negates the benefit of a large market, and helps to level the field a bit for teams like the Brewers and Pirates. As much as I can stand unions in general and player unions specifically I can't believe they didn't scream on this one.
The class act that once dwelled in Chavez Ravine has moved 40 miles south. The Angels are the new Dodgers.

Shawn Green and his 16mil. load can't be helping.
He needs to just let go and move on down to Pheonix image
