Thanks wise old bear! I have returned the coins, but still waiting for my refund. In the fine print, the guarantee states 10-14 days before refund! It has been seven days now. Will let you know if and when I actually get the 100% refund as stated! Happy Holidays!!
Hopefully all works out fine. Be careful buying from the ads in coin newspapers and magazines as well- lots of sharks in these places as well. Many fine dealers can be found posting on these forums. mike
Until then, he was still under the trance of the telemarketer, who had told him how great the investment was going to be for him.
This is the part that I just do not understand. It must be a trance because how otherwise does one send several thousand dollars to a starnger for a sure-fire investment.
Why I think it is a trance (or irresistible sales pitch): I have heard the pitch before and have been a few nanoseconds away from taking the plunge. At first, they charm you, then they pull you in. The telemarketers in these boiler room operations are well-trained to make the sale. (As an aside, the movie Boiler Room is a quite entertaining and fictional look at how one might operate.)
"sending several thousand dollars to a stranger" who asks for it: I have a personal policy that I will not send money to anyone who asks for it over the phone. Period. Charity for starving children? Send me the information in the mail. Firefighters who want to restore inner city homes? Send me your brochure in the mail. 10,000 shares of GAP (some guy really called me at work once to sell me 10,000 shares of Gap)? Send me your credentials and an audited financial report in the mail. If it is your firm policy to just say "no", it is a lot easier to say "no" when you have to.
"sure-fire investment": anyone selling you coins, bullion, or securities as a "can't-miss" investment is lying. There is no "can't-miss" investment. If there were, the seller would be buying it all for himself and would soon be retired in some fabulous place with servants and 40 luxury cars.

a straight, no nonsense answer from collectors and reputable dealers who know
what they are talking about. Second, most all of us have made blunders in our early
collecting period. Better to learn the bitter lesson early on, rather then comtinuing to
pour money into phoney overpriced deals.
