Coming to a show no where near me. Although there's a slim chance I might be able to make a detour to baltimore.

  • Does anyone have a summary of the competition? (i.e. how many coins, are there counterfeits, how much time are you allowed, etc.????)

    Thanks, Dennis

Dennis, Here are some of the answers based on last year's event. You can see the number of coins involved (and some that are counterfeit, questionable toning, et cetera). They had one hour to grade the 40 coins.

    Actually, we had 45 minutes.

Apparently, then, PCGS's press releases need better editing and proofreading. image
  • It was 30 minutes for the first test, was way more then enough time needed. And we got a cool T-shirtimage I hope they do another T-shirt this year also.

30 minutes for the regular first test

  • My guess is TDN is one of those smiling guys that handed in his College Boards 15 minutes early too.image

Heh, heh, heh - actually college GPA went like this: 3.9, 3.0, 2.5, 2.0 .... I discovered that there were more fun ways to spend one's time than studying! image

I'm all signed up and ready to go first thing Thursday morning in Ft. Lauderdale. It was wonderful humiliation last year and I look forward to more of the same this year. I'm going to really be ticked off, if I get a worse score this year. No 'tricked up' coins please! I missed the 1927-D St. Gaudens that was a counterfeit last year. I didn't even know enough about gold to know it was a super rare date and would have been a half million dollar coin if it were real! They won't slip that one by me again!

Is Jim Halperin allowed to win again ?

He could always send his "boy" Ryan Caroll to win.

This way they get to promote Heritage through PCGS.Heck they already own 25% of NGC

Is Bruce TDN retired? Or did he teach Laura how to grade?

Yes, Stewart, I consider myself retired. Somebody else's turn to win.

Tho I might enter the dealer side just for the challenge [if they'll let me]. image
  • From what I can see, TDN--dispite his interest in things other than attending college class--- has already thought Laura how to greatly improve her spelling and grammer this year. Besides if he shows her how to grade, Legend will end up wanting to keep all the top undergraded $1's in inventory, instead of the coins joining the great TDN hoard!image

    TDN:

You should enter the Dealer competition at a minimium

Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
