1923-P Peace, What would it grade?

I have a 1923-P , I did use acetone to remove the filmy muck from it , But It came out really nice. What would it grade? or would it get Body bagged or is it worth even trying?

Thanks, Brad....... imageimage

  • Hard to tell from those pics, but it looks polished. I would say XF or low AU and not worth sending in.

  • The pictures don't really show the surfaces very well. I can't tell
if the coin is uncirculated. To me it looks wizzed.

Here's what I look for in Peace$s to qualify for submission. PCGS
    is very tough on these:

clean fields (maybe 1 or 2 little ticks and just a touch of contact)
portrait must be clean (especially face)
luster must be mostly intact over the high points (hair on obv.
    eagle shoulder on rev.)
Eagle may have a few minor marks hidden in the feathers but
    nothing big

If you meet all these and the coin has not been cleaned or wizzed
you may have something worth submitting.

Here's an example I picked up recently in an ANACS MS-65 holder.

  • Thanks, it's not polished, it had been in a bank lockbox for many years, It had a almost greasy sludge on it probably because it was in an old leather bank pouch, The pouch is probably worth more......LOL... but, it does look pretty good especially in the fields almost like mirrored, sorry about the pics, Will try to get some better snaps, still working on camera stand.
  • Hey, that's a nice 25 you have, Now i do have one of them that is that nice, but the 5 on mine looks slightly doubled.

on grade, i,d be concerned about the visible scratch/ hairline across the face to the neck.
that would really hold back the grade if it was an uncirculated piece.
imo, a MS62 may not be worth the cost of holdering.
But, having whichever coin slabbed is entirely up to the submitter.
Is it worth it to you, is the question.
  • Looks highly polished to me also. People cleaned coins more in the past then they do now, so sitting in a bank vault for 25 years means nothing.
