Fun with an eBay scammer

I've been casually stringing this one along. First message is at the bottom and last one is at the top. What is funny is he's apparently run this same deal with several other eBay sellers and is cutting and pasting the item into a form email. As a result, it is a bit of a funny read at times. I've not edited out any personal info. But, will say this, his user ID was registered on eBay on 12/8/04 as being in Singapore.

The coin was around $1000 and he was sending an extra $2700 to cover insurance.

The only thing new since my original post was an email yesterday as follows:


i will get back to youwillthe tracking number as soon as i recieve it so that you can also track the progress of the cheque.

The client will probably be a "Baron" Somebody with a Chinese name. I can't remember the name used the first time, but they were surprised when we tracked down the real person's identity they were using -- and confirmed he had no such title, did not order the item, and had no secretary with the name of the woman used to "represent" him.

I put an automobile on Autotrader and got at the very least 7 responses from agents representing "clients" (in 7 different countries)who were very interested in my car. They ALL want to send much more $$ than the asking price, and seller must return the balance in US money order or chashier's check (Western Union was popular) so that their "agents" can arrange shipping. I called Autotrader after the 1st offer, and they quickly said...FORGET IT!!

They send you bogus fund over the selling amount which you are then to remit in a cashiers check to shipping company. In simple terms, I give you a check for a hundred dollar item in the amount of $200 of which a hundred you are to send to my shipping company via cashiers check. A few days later you find out my check was no good and you are out the item plus $100 you sent to the shipping company.

Edited to add: yes some folks fall for this.
