Off on a tangent.....Would this have a shot at 65?

Here is one that I currently own.....MS64 with the exceptions of the die cracks on the rev....very strong strike....

  • How bad are those 2 bagmarks on the cheek? And the luster?

  • Kinda difficult to tell from the pictures. The strike looks strong enough and the luster looks great. I'd say yes depending on how much chatter is in the fields..

  • the marks are more pronounced in the pic.

Luster is great even through the toning. Rev toning is excellent with only one hard tick to the field under the wing, above the upper-most arrow point.

has faint mirroring on the rev

(see Cameron's Question) also the fields on the reverse look busy.

I'm no expert for sure but the obv fields look a bit "busy" for a 65, but that might be a trick of the lighting.

  • It's a close one. It depends on the ticks on the check. If that's a reeding mark in the middle of the cheek, even one, then no because they are very tough on this date. If the luster is nice as is seems, then it will cross no question however IMHO.

I think it's an MS-64 because of the numerous light contact marks especially in the reverse field, and the slightly weak strike which I believe I can detect from the photo in the stars to the viewer's left of the date and in the "E" of E Pluribus...

From your photo, the luster seems 'off' ... and no Morgan will ever achieve gem status with 'off' luster.

Very little chance, IMO, though I've seen worse in 65 holders from just about ALL services.

Solid 64 and better than average for the grade, IMO, but it's just not quite 65.
