1882-O NTC MS-64 DMPL Morgan Dollar -- New Photos

Here's an interesting example of taking some risk on E-Bay (a while back) with minimal downside risk and significant potential upside... I risked $110 for this beautiful 1882-O NTC MS-64 DMPL Morgan Dollar.

I will probably crack it out (with some other "third world" slabbed coins) and send it in to PCGS for grading in a month or so... I've stil lgot a few other up my sleev to share with you from my recent new camera test drive photo shoot... image

I think that she's pretty nice for an NTC certified coin image

  • Seeing the coin in person what do you think they will grade it at?

Cameron: I think that she's a lock MS-64 PL (possibly DMPL), with a real shot at MS-65 PL. The mirrors look great in person...

  • Now I understand. They don't call it TEXAS hold-em for nothing. Nice snag Stuart, but quit a gamble in that crazy holder even for a Texan! Of course the greatest gambler of all time was named Stuart too (Stu Unger-3 time Binions world series 1st place), so why am I suprised! image

Don, Cameron, Tom Frank & Bill: Thanks to you all for your posts on this atypical NTC Morgan Dollar thread.

My purpose in posting this specific coin experience was to demonstrate that every once-in-a-while you can find a needle in a haystack, if you are willing to take some reasonable measured risk on a 3rd tier grading service slabbed coin (as if you were buying a raw coin).

This is the exception to the rule, but they are out there if you look hard enough. image

Of course it's always nice if the e-seller offers a return priviledge, and one is always safer to purchase these higher-risk coins in person...

That's a nice looking morgan- sometimes it is worthwhile taking a risk on a (potentially) good coin in a bad slab!! image

Stuart, finding that needle on ebay in a plastic pig suit for half decent money isnt easy, but it can be done. I have bought three NTC plastic pig suits so far...........and they were just that......

unlucky for me, glad for you and happy you came out ok financially on that one.

Tom: There's no doubt that it pays to be careful when purchasing third tier grading service certified coins.
