my uncle, my son and I went to the show. We got there a tad late and it did not seem to be very busy or nearly as busy as the show has been in the past on Saturday.
I went over to Dennis' table (Jade) to get a peek at that PL Dime. It sure was a beauty and I don't even collect those unless they have a 16d on them or possibly a 42/1 on them. I introduced my uncle to Dennis and he ended up picking up a nice 1795 $1, 1799 $1, and a real nice 13s typ2 buff from him towards the end of the show! (Dennis, please send referral coin)
My boy and I started out then as I always do at the first row (100's) and worked our way back and forth eventually to around 700 before we left for lunch. In that time I purchased him a ROCK and a small bottle with gold flakes in it, no not goldenschlager.
I saw very few forum members but did see Merz, Ken, Tootawl, Wayneherndon, Dollars, and Pistareen (who had the unfortunate luck of having to be across the aisle from the equivalent of a playboy playmate all day). Pistareen asked my boy if he'd ever held 1,000,000.00 and then handed him the 1866 NM dollar!!! I inspected the Strawberry leaf cent too while talking with him!! Awesome coin!!! I also finally got to meet EVP. I think he appeared to be worried when I asked which one at the table was EVP. Nice guy. He showed me a couple of fantastic pieces.
We then went to lunch over in the mall portion. We had a quick lunch and my boy wanted to walk around a bit and check out the USS Constellation so we did that.
We then went back to the show and finished walking the aisles. It seemed as though everywhere I looked there were Key date coins coming out of the woodwork and they were priced STRONG!!! Saw at least 4 1796 quarters. I was tempted on a pcgs G4 but it was 7500.00. I had taken about 5K with me in cash and nothing really grabbed me enough to spend it. I did not see much cash at all exchanging hands all day.
I did pick up a nice NGC 1896s quarter in G4 in around aisle 1000 for a pretty good price that I may even stick it on ebay. It actually has the TY still visible but the reverse is somewhat weakly struck in the central area, but full rims.
I overheard one dealer telling another dealer that he was sure some little old lady stole 2 silver dollars from him. I also overheard another saying that business was slow, which by mid--afternoon it was a ghost town.
It's disappointing to get there Saturday and already have numerous tables vacated. My uncle was wanting to visit DLRC's table and they were gone. I'd guess roughly 10 percent were empty when the show opened and by the time we left at 3:30, probably well over half were gone.
Most of the dealers were very friendly especially towards my boy. Some gave him small freebies and one even gave him a can of coke.
I left with the 1896s quarter. My son left with the bottle of gold flakes, a rock, 2 sampleslabs, 1 eagle eye token, 1 butternut token, 1 wooden nickel, the newest state quarter for his book, a flashing ball, a squeezy eyeball ball thing, and a bag full of stuff from the youth coin grab.

Yes, sales were down quite sharply according to a few dealer friends of mine at the show!
This show contained the good, the bad and the ugly!
First, the good! My grandson Aaron shows off his newly acquired paper note purchase. Yes, the kid don't like metal collecting!
His new note is a Western Exchange Fire and Marine Insurance Co. $3 note. Dated Nov. 2, 1857 from Omaha City, Nebraska. I think he likes it! What do you think??
Second, the bad! Well, actually some fellows looking for those that may be bad!!!
And thirdly, the ugly! The ugly rumor that was abuzz on the bourse floor. This is the second show in a row that this ugly rumor has been flying! What is the rumor you ask???
Well, rumor is that a certain individual who was a defendent in the ACG lawsuit has settled with ACG and agreed to testify against and provide info against the remaining defendants!
Please, don't ask who the individual is, because I will not respond!
Ken
We'll use our hands and hearts and if we must we'll use our heads.
<< <i>Please, don't ask who the individual is, because I will not respond! >>
Then why spread the rumor here and tell us about it?

Like I said, "O dense one", its a rumor! Oh, it will come out soon! Hell, it is out! It's been announced a few times in Coin World if you read and comprehend!
Maybe the individual himself will respond!
Ken
I agree. You shouldn't bait us with comments like that. If you won't tell us what you know, don't tell us you heard a rumor, but won't tell us about it!
I hope you don't mean the "Thank You Eric Tillery" comment in the ACG ad...
I mean what the hell is this, 1st GRADE? Tell me, tell me......Ken Tell me!!!

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
It's good to take the youngsters to a coin show--I hope the dealers were nice to Ken's grandson. I give a lot of coins to youngsters just to get them interested in numismatics.
