First inclination tells me they will BB it, but from what i really know about toners it could actually grade.

After giving your question much deep thought, I have arrived at my opinion. PCGS will either grade the coin, not grade the coin, or will misplace the coin. I feel confident that my opinion will be confirmed as accurate. When it is I will consider becoming a weatherman and then predict (a la George Carlin) that we can expect "dark" in tonight's forecast, followed tomorrow morning by "widely scattered light".

the obverse spots and the reverse look almost believeable, but the overall color doesn't seem legit. i'll say they will return it with a smiley-faced-winking bodybag and a note to your parents about that chemistry set.

I have seen proof coins still in the original packaging with close to the colors of your coin(more red). It just might holder.

a pity that 130 of us can grade (or no grade) the coin via internet pix in two days, yet pcgs is going to take a quarter of a year to get it back to you.

Does this mean that PCGS is starting to understand what the term "Market Acceptable" means? Should I send in this 57 Washington I got from Baley as quickly as possible? Should Russ resubmit this 1950 Washington that got a BB? Thanks for your thoughts!!! Lee

It might be the little note I put inside the flip letting the graders know that it came from the proof set toned like that.

To me it looks like it was toned by a Whitman (or similar type) folder, accounting for the way it toned somewhat evenly on the reverse. The obverse is a little puzzling though. I wouldn't expect it to be as splotchy.

Thought that '87 was nice- "That 1887 is so NT you could use it for a presentation on what real toning is supposed to look like" (old thread)-- On the other hand, I'm surprised the Kennedy was graded, although I voted NT. Was is submitted in the mint packaging to help them??

I voted that it would grade. I figured a coin doctor good enough to make the obv would make the rev look a little bit more pleasing.

Russ....I doubt your note you put in the flip helped any to get in this coin into a holder. I sent PCGS a similar red toned 1964 Proof Kennedy still in the original US mint cello package. What did PCGS do...they cut it out of the proof package and placed it in a bodybag.

I can laugh about it now, but at the time I was MAD.
