These now seem to trade at around issue price now on eBay where last year people were paying big money to get them.

Sorry, what are NWRS medals?
What is unique about them is they were the first to be etched using a laser instead of minted in a press.

Wasn't it just the dies that were prepared with laser technology, not the medals themselves?
These medals, in my opinion, are the best thing that the mint has issued in the last several years that comes close to being worth what I paid for it. And, lest you think that I do not support the mint, I buy multiples of nearly everything they produce....just ask my wife.
In early manified images that I saw the frosting is actually coarser than that created using sandblasting.
