I greatly like the recommended reverse by the CCAC. Nice appearance of Monticello (since the law requires a return to that motif). I am still partial to the 2005 portrait of Jefferson above all others. I find the artistic merit vastly better than what the CFA picked and the rendering of LIBERTY in Jefferson's own handwriting is excellent. I hope that the 2005 obverse carries forward into subsequent years until we finally learn that a return to allegory is best.

The Mint does it again. Picks the least aesthetic, most mundane alternatives. The old reverse was a bad design from day one. The new profile view of Monticello was light years better. The 2005 obverse is likewise a much nicer portrait. What a waste of the public's money and the time and energy of the committee members!
These people have absolutely no imagination whatsoever for the design of our coins. It's bad enough that we HAD to go back to the Jefferson/Monticello design (thanks Virginia - there really ISN'T a Santa Claus)... but to return to the '30-03 reverse demonstrates lack of imagination.
I'm 41, and I doubt I'll ever see really beautiful circulating coinage that we once had as a nation. What a shame....
I wrote a rant about this... and then thought better of it... so...
The only thing I can say about this is... here comes a ton of coins with the steps at the edge of the coin and more coins with striking issues/problems. I like the design of the reverse. I just wish they would have taken the steps off finally.
Also, please PCGS... finally end the Late Date Jefferson Registry Set... it doesn't need four more coins next year included... it doesn't need the next 50 years of the new design included. It now has more coins included than the 38-64 set. And some would say, is almost just as valuable in high grades as the early set.
Have a Nice Day!

I can already hear the public complaining about "In God We Trust" being too large. Eventhough I think it is fine. I do wish we would of had a new reverse. That design has been around since 1938!
