a couple of questions about the grading garuntee - the coin in Q now pictured

Okay, just because I am really curious what the answer is (although I think I know) ...

I send in a coin and it comes back overgraded ... noticably so ... as in no f'n way is it that ... in a coffin ... you know what I mean ...

Anyway, what would happen if I sent it in for the grade garuntee? Would PCGS have to refund me the difference or find me one of that grade, or would they look at me silly and laugh, because I submitted it?

I would think I can not be the first to have thought of the implications of this ...

Okay, so that being a stupid question ... here's one more suitable. Do people buy "coffins" just for this reason?

“We are only their care-takers,” he posed, “if we take good care of them, then centuries from now they may still be here … ”

Refer to the section of that sentence that begins after the comma.

    Yes.

  • I was satisfied with the offers PCGS made when I sent in over graded coins. I didn't even have to ask for more. I bought many sight un-seen coins and they made me whole on the tiny percentage I felt were obviously over graded.
  • Whats a garuntee ?

Apparently not, unless maybe it's a "mechanical error".

  • I was wondering how their offers on overgraded coins are figured out. (PCGS price guide?). I have an overgraded 64rd 27-s Lincoln and auction results are from $800 to $4000. I paid $1955 for my new one, so I want that much back, and don't want to risk sending it to pcgs and all (you must have to pay a fee) and get offered only $800 or $1000 for it.

How do you know it's overgraded?

  • I have a PCGS 1957-P Washington quarter with a thin knife scratch across the whole hairline to the rim. It is a 61 on a good day, and came in a group auction lot. Are you guys saying PCGS would actually give me money for this POS??? How ?

What is it currently graded? I got a PR 67 DCAM but it was graded 70 DCAM. There is a big diff in price for a modern proof Jeff...

    Because it's red/brown.

Actually, in the case I am refering to Andy, I do think they made a mistake.

The coin has an interesting struck through grease error on the reverse, but that is not the area where the grade is off (IMO). I bought the coin raw from a local dealer as the grade I think it is in early 2001, and submitted it with several others in mid 2003.

And since I opened a can of worms, what do you think she grades?

I really shouldn't mind (actually I don't mind much because someone will probably pay better money for it now if I decide to sell), but it spurred a question that had been running around in my mind. Thanks for everyone's input.
