1980 D jefferson is it somewhat rare?

Under the PCGS price guide it shows the 1980 D jefferson to be worth $100.00 at a grade of 65. Is this a rare coin? What does this one grade to you experts? I don't belive it to be worth anything but .05.imageimage

ONLY if there is a "FS" (Full Steps) designation.
  • OK...Thanks for the information. I guess I can use it for that candy bar after all. Ii always check the price guide before using change for anything considering I'm just getting started in coins.

  • Your coin grades VF or so and is worth face value.

The '80-D nickel comes extremely nice on average. Reverses especially can be just stunning
on this date with near perfect strikes, satiny luster, and highly PL surfaces. There is a strong
tendency for this date to appear as one sided gems and even the finest specimens tend to
have one side much better than the other. Obverses are plagued by a scratch on the highest
point near the ear. Six step coins are a little less common because the strike will often have
a weakness and many dies didn't quite possess full detail.

The pictured coin is slightly higher grade than what is normally seen in circulation. I'd call it a
high grade XF but it should be noted it was a typical poor strike. When this sort of coin is in a
little higher grade I refer to it as a PU because it is so unattractive.
