If you collect a series that's far cheaper than you can afford, it's pure fun, pure hobby, but you may not be all that careful about what you buy for your collection.
If you collect something that's so expensive that you have to pace your purchases, you become more discerning and will arguably end up with a much better collection. But it can be soooo frustrating when you have to pass on coins you know you should be buying.
Somewhere in the middle, there may be a series that's just right for you. The perfect coins become available at a pace at which you can buy everything you really should want, but you'll have no money left to blow on less worthy coins.
How would you rate the series you collect?

I really liked seeing the results of this post, but I'm not sure that the choice ...just about right. Somehow, I always manage to find the money I need to buy the coins I want, but just barely. means the same thing to all of us.
Personally, I would much rather save and stretch a little to get a quality coin that fits my collecting plan and themes, but only with the truely discretionary part of my income. About fifteen years ago I bought some coins I really couldn't afford and had to flip those as family matters came first and foremost. That's when I decided I would only collect with money I could afford not to see again. It means I have to be really patient, and have to save and squirrel away the funds, but when I get a nice piece, I am always really happy I did.

<< <i>Let's see. Only 7 out of 51 people chose to collect coins that were easily within their means. What does that tell us about the mentality of the typical collector? >>
ummm......that the coin collectors are appx 3 times more frugal than the population in general??
heh heh
FAR better ratio than what Avg. Joe is doing with his re-fi's to buy goofy junk.
