ebay auction counters

Hi everyone. Is there an advantage/disadvantage of hiding the hit counter on auction listings? I think it is pretty neat that you can track hits, but how accurate are they, and how can a buyer or a seller use them to their advantage?

Comments

  • They're very accurate. They only count unique visitors and not each visit if I remember correctly.
  • I know that they can be set up to count unique hits or everytime someone refreshes the page. That's why I can't see where the buyer has an advantage by seeing a counter. The buyer never knows how the seller set it up. And I'm not so sure how accurate they are. I have an auction running right now that has a bid but the counter indicates zero.
  • The first few days the counter stays @ 0. I have noticed the same thing with some of my auctions. Then towards the last day it jumps to several dozen (or however many people looked at the auction).
