1894-S Quarter with Shifted Mintmark. What is it and What is the value?

Does anyone have any ideas? I saw one for the first time the other day. It may grade VF to XF. Neat looking variety. Does anyone have any information on it on its rarity and value? It is the one listed in Breen (shifted to the right).

Thanks, Richard.

David Lawrence's "Complete Guide to Barber Quarters" notes five mintmark positions for the 1894-S. One is centered, and four are far right, with no repunched mintmarks reported as of 1994. Breen lists only one far right mintmark variety in his Encyclopedia. Neither Lawrence nor Breen discuss relative rarities of these varieties.

One of the worst Barber quarters I own has a mintmark to the right. I can't remember seeing an 1894-S quarter with a centered mintmark.

I own a centered MM variety in ChAU+, semiPL ... and as far as I can tell it is the harder of the positions to find. It seems that most I have seen/see are punched right mid to far right ...

edit to add ... my understanding is no one is paying a premium for different MM positions on this date ..

Here's my 1894-S quarter. If it were a dime, it would be worth something. This was my first buying mistake, as a 12-year-old in a local coin shop. It's harshly cleaned and has too much remaining detail to grade PO-1.

Thanks all. The one you pictured, ccex, is identicle to the one I saw.

    Thanks for the confirmation.

I hope the one you saw had denticles, if the seller thought it was XF. I'm still looking for an original 1894-S quarter with full LIBERTY which I can afford.

I will go to the shop again this week and look at it again. I seem to recall full denticles. If you are interested, I will send you a PM after I go to the shop.
