Michigan State Fall Convention - Unofficial Show Thread

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Today was dealer setup at the MSNS Fall Convention in Dearborn, Michigan. Considering that this is a family holiday, the bourse was rather busy. We had a brisk day of selling, which delayed our ability to setup our tables quickly. Can't complain though. Today is probably a pretty good sign that this will be a fantastic show. It usually is a great show for us anyway, but this year seems different (in a good way).
We had Thanksgiving dinner at the Hyatt after dealer setup. It was a very good meal and we were truly thankful for the food and the company, although I would have preferred to have been with my family. Anyway, it was nice to see all of the familiar faces also spending Thanksgiving in a hotel restaurant. Misery enjoys company.
We will post images live from the show tomorrow (Friday), assuming that we have time to do so. I would like to post images of forum members, so please stop by and say hi. We are at table 146 (retail - Dennis) and table 21 (wholesale - Andrew).
Until tomorrow........... Dennis

It's 5:05 PM on Friday and I just had a chance to sit down for the first time. Holy cow is it busy here!! I took a few pictures this morning, but I won't have time to post them until later. Met several forum members and had a great time shooting the breeze with them. Now it's time for the first bathroom break of the day (I know......too much information). Actually, now that I think about it, I did not have lunch today either. That explains the dizzy spells! More later.........

I met several forum members during the past couple of days. I can't remember the forum handles of some of the members, so please post here if have excluded you from this list: lathmach, madmarty, cameonut, numobri and lloydmincy. I met a few others, but the names escape me.
Here are some pics of the bourse floor on Friday and Saturday, just to give you a general idea of the activity level.

Joking aside, I have never been to a show like that (and you know what regional show I regularly attend).

Thanks for posting the pics - no red x's here.
It was great to meet you even though we didn't get a chance to talk much.
You are right, this show was extra busy on Friday - very crowded. It spent 6 hours making two laps of the main bourse and the annex. I hope saturday was as busy.
I was mostly selling extra pieces - I sold quite a few at strong prices from several dealers. The best show I had selling in many years.
I was also shopping for cameos - only found a few. But did cherry a couple of nice cams in proof sets.
Also bought a lovely toned matched set of BTW commems in PCGS 65 in OGH's.
Overall a great day on Friday - I may go back tomorrow.

our show on Friday was pretty busy as well. I guess a holiday weekend is a good weekend to have a show
Sorry about the red x's. My wireless internet is slooooow tonight. Here are more images:
Here's an image of MadMarty. This was taken just before he showed me his latest purchases.....a large bag filled with weenie coins. I kid you not.
Here's a pic of lloydmincy (aka Lloyd). We had a nice chat about toning, slabs and coins in general. It sounds like he has some killer coins that I would love to see. Maybe next year at the show! Very nice guy.
This is a picture of numobri (Brian). He is holding an aluminum plate that is impressed with 4 cancelled dies. I will let him explain the exact details of his show piece, as I don't want to butcher the facts. We also had a nice chat or two about coins. Real pleasure to deal with.
This is a close-up pic of Brian's cancelled die show piece.
I wasn't set-up to get pictures when I met with cameonut or lathmach. Maybe next time. I was really nice to finally meet Ray (lathmach). He is every bit as nice in person as he is on the forum. A real gentleman. I enjoyed our brief talk. Maybe next time we can chat longer.
More pics in a minute......

BTW, the young lady in the background of Brian's picture is an ANACS employee. I know that Cameron will be asking any minute now....if he hasn't already. I noticed that she did not have a ring on her finger, so it's too bad that Cameron didn't make it out the show. Can you imagine all of the sample slabs that Cammie could get if he married an ANACS employee?!

She is hot! I wouldn't have a chance.

Oh, so you say you want more pics of MadMarty? Sure! No problem!
Actually, this is a funny series of images. I was trying to get an image of the entire show from the back corner where our wholesale table is located. As I was taking the images, I notice a strange thing/person jumping into my shot. Guess who? Yup....MadMarty. Take a look at the guy in the background of the last image. He looks very scared.
This is the first shot from the back corner of the main room. I didn't have a chance to get an image of the annex room. Look at the right of the first picture (see that strange guy??)
.......here he comes.
And the grand finale........MadMarty at his finest.
Apparently Marty saw my camera and just had to jump in the picture.

So did you meet the ANACS girl?
Yes. I spoke with her for about 10 minutes or so. Nice kid. She wore a mini skirt each day, so I am sure that you would have liked that. She told me that she is going to the Baltimore show next week. I think that you should get on priceline and book a ticket asap. Cammie, this could be the one for you! She told me that she likes tall guys. She is also an avid sample slab collector.

No way, you gotta be joking!
Call my cell phone tomorrow and I will hand the phone over to her. You can ask her yourself. The ANACS table is directly across from our table.

I believe you about the mini skirts but not the sample slab part

No seriously, I believe you Cam...if you treat girls right and with respect any guy can get the hottest woman.

Poor Marty. He always goes after those weenie coins. I wonder what the real reson is
Cameron Kiefer
I was mainly a browser, but yes everyone, it was BUSY. Really busy. I think the coin world continues to hummm
Lloyd
Oh Yeah! Everyone's wearing heavy jackets.
Looks like a good show. Nothing more fun than a coin show!
<< <i>Something doesn't look right in those photos....Something different than the Long Beach shows. What could it be?
Oh Yeah! Everyone's wearing heavy jackets.
Yup - winter came early in Michigan this year. The weather Friday was cold, windy, & cloudy. We were all treated to 1-10 inches of snow on Wednesday (depending on where you live). By the way, it helps to know a dealer or two that will volunteer to store your jacket while you are at the show!
That is what really makes coin shows fun - not much to do outdoors unless you ski or snowmobile.

Why? Because I can. Why do you collect sample slabs dork boy! As far as you going after the ANACS girl, the other one wouldn't mind. Maybe she will let the restrianing order expire...
I know that Mike Farone's (ANACS grader) daughter works for ANACS from time to time, could this be her? If so I will give Mike a call and warn of the tall skinny stalker that will be showing his face sometime.
Great show report.
Those of us that couldn't attend appreciate it, i worked through the holidays also.
Looked like a very active bourse, Cleve. Oh show was pretty busy last weekend.
See you at Balt.

That you have to go to Baltimore, and you'll see her when you get back. What else.
Good morning everyone. I am back in the office, but only for a day. I leave tomorrow morning for the Baltimore show and will be gone until next Monday. I will try to do a show report from Baltimore (if it isn't too busy).
Lloyd, sorry about my poor photography skills. If you send me money I can do some Photoshop touch-ups on you pic. For $20 you can have the Ben Afleck look. For $40 I can give you the Pierce Bronson look. If you decide to not send me any money, then I will make you pic look like Cameron's mug shot.
Sunday at the show was very busy. It was the best Sunday turnout that I recall at a MSNS Fall show. We were the last dealer out of the bourse, just like last year. We always seem to get a last minute customer, which is a good thing. Actually, Sunday turned out to be our best day of selling, in terms of total sales amount.
Summary of the show:
1) fantastic traffic (as usual)
2) met several forum members for the first time (very cool)
3) MadMarty is insane (you already knew that)
4) Cameron needs a hormone reduction operation, and
5) See you next year at Thanksgiving time

It is okay to show an interest in a gentleman's daughter, in this case Mike Farone's.
It is not, and I repeat NOT, okay to drool and stalk. Have I taught you nothing.

Forgot to mention - NGC had a sample slab from their Registry Luncheon on their display table. Too bad it had the word "SAMPLE" scrawled across the face in a black magic marker.
