PCGS is $1,500.00 in MS68. ICG is $15.00?

The PCGS price guide shows an MS68 1979 Lincoln at $1,500.00. Even in the undergrade of MS67 it lists at $300.00.

I picked this one up tonight on Teletrade.
ICG MS68 1979 Lincoln. Closed at $15.00?

Is PCGS and ICG that far off? A $1,500.00 PCGS coin is an ICG$15.00 coin?!

  • What says the PCGS coins sells for $1,500?

Thats a price guide. I don't know, but I bet the PCGS guide is off.

  • Seems your 68 is priced like a 66 PCGS. good luck on the crossover!

Most copper in the ICG slabs I've seen will drop one or two grades at PCGS; still for $15 that one looks like a nice bargin.

  • Your coin is a PCGS MS66...sorry. you can't have a visible mark for anything higher than 66, especially in the middle of the fields.

Cameron brings up some excellent points. In fact, a pop check with NGC shows they've graded a ton of these in MS67. As if there was a small hoard of these located or something.

Either way, it looks and reads like a pretty coin and who knows? It just might end up being worth $15.

    You never know.

  • I think it is worth the $15 you paid and maybe even up to $30 or so, but I don't think it is a $300 coin or $1,500 coin like the PCGS guide says. They need to throw the whole guide away. It is a really off in many areas.

Yeah, and the PCGS price guide shows a 1981 Roosevelt MS69DCAM at $32. It's difficult to find a buyer at $7-10 on eBay. So much for the PCGS price guide which really needs to be revamped.

pcgs ms67 1979's have ranged from about $40 to $80 on ebay. Most of the P coins from 1974 to 1980 sell for around $100 in ms67 (78 is a little tougher) but pcgs leaves $300 in their guide so places like DLRC can ask $425 for an ms67 1976. And then dates that are legitimately tough, like 73-d,74-s,76-d and could sell for $500-$1000 are guess what, also $300 in the price guide. Yeah, and ngc and icg are pretty much always overgraded by a grade or more (and many of these coins in pcgs holders are overgraded too). Heritage has an ngc ms67 71-s that they want $2000+ for. Someone buying that would be totally ripped off, for they could find a pcgs ms66 of the same quality for like $50. I'm sure Heritage is not dumb, and that coin would be in a pcgs ms67 holder if it really was ms67.
