Super Bowl Predictions Anyone ?

I know it's too early, but let's have some fun...

Indianapolis beat Pittsburgh
Atlanta beats Philadelphia

(Now that the PA networks are terribly disappointed that it's not an in state Super Bowl)

The Super Bowl will feature the two best QB's in the game (all respect to Brett Favre).

also hit USC at 7:2 ...they're now 5:8 favorites.

Broncos vs Eagles. I thought I'd take an AFC longshot.
  • Before the season started I predicted Philadelphia New England - that's still likely, but I'd rather see payback for XXXIII. Give me Atlanta Denver - we already got them once this year, and we can get them again!

colts can beat pitt but cant beat pats! so depends how it plays out.

falcons seem to be most complete team in a very weak nfc conference. but i dont think it will be them or the eagles! as i see someone getting hot in playoffs and going.

but in the end my pick will be colts to win it all. there defense stinks but manning has so many weapons that no defense can stop them unless they stop themselves.
  • Kuhlmann,

I'd have to totally disagree with you on the Colts. The Colts defense is improving, but Krenzel is a rookie and made a lot of rookie mistakes. They've only played 3 games against good defenses (twice Jax once NE) and are 1-2 against those teams. In the playoffs I believe NE, Pitt, and Den could all stymie the Colt's offense especially if the Colts have to travel to their house. Defense wins championships and the Colts don't have what it takes.

zsz70 - The way you constantly disrespect Pennsylvania, you must have been speeding in Pennsylvania one time, threw your stinkin trash out the window, and received a stiff fine for littering and speeding plus some jail time. Also you seem to have little knowledge about football (which was evident in your thread about college coaches) or you would realize that rookie head coach Jim Mora does not have the experience yet to get into a Super Bowl. I do think Mora is a good coach who eventually could win a Super Bowl - but no chance for this season.

Eagles for sure in the NFC - a mortal lock barring any major injuries.

I think it will be a long shot team in the AFC meaning not the Patriots, Steelers, or Colts but I'm not sure what team yet - too early.

Super Bowl winner - the Eagles - winning the Super Bowl this season is their destiny.
  • Stevek,

    That's funny. No disrespect.

I grew up watching the Flyers on Channel 29
with Gene Hart and Bobby Taylor.

My favorite team was Bradshaw and the Steelers as
a kid. I still have great memories of those teams.
Remember when Jackie Smith dropped the ball in the end zone?
    That made my day !!!

Thanks for the put downs though. That's really nice of you image
Please don't be that way to your wife or co-workers. They will
    appreciate that.
  • Stevek,

Just for the record, my college thread dealt with the fact that
    Jopa has 1 national championship.

Tom Osborne, Bobby Bowden, and Bear Bryant all have
3 or more. They also have a better winning percentage then Jopa.

If Jopa spent his whole career in the Big Ten instead of a non-conference
schedule, then Ohio State and Michigan would have ruined his nice record
    and bowl trips.

    Alabama had the tough SEC.
Florida St. always had Florida and Miami,Fla...usually top 5 teams after 1982.
Nebraska always had a great OU team to deal with.

So my thread about Jopa showed no disrespect at all... just my opinion.
Please explain how this thread shows no knowledge of college football coaches ???

Michael Vick is one of the best??? He is possibly the most overrated player in the NFL.

    Penn State under Joe Paterno has won 2, count em' 2, 1 + 1 = 2, national championships in 1982 and 1986.

Hey - Gene Hart was really something wasn't he? Great announcer! Certainly one of the finest hockey announcers of all time. May he RIP.

Ok yoda!! not gonna be the eagles!!

Vick most overrated player in nfl?? that is the worst comment i have ever heard. Look at denver game and giants game the guy is unreal and if he stays healthy they have the best shot at making the big game.

Except a closer game, say 24-21. But hey, the Eagles make progress and win the NFC!!

I didn't think that the Eagles would lose to Tampa Bay 2 years ago, and thought there was no way Carolina would beat them, so I can't predict them making it. TO has made the offense great, but if they lose again this year we'll have to start talking a curse.

OK - let's see first Bowden has only two championships and Joepa has two championships - so what's your point

TO sucks, the bucs shut him down in 2002, he had like 38 yards receiving! Past that this is the same Eagles
team that got bent over by the NFC South the last two years. I would put money on either Atlanta or the Bucs
being able to handle Philly this year in the playoffs.

Philly is really setting themselves up with this pansy schedule, They will NOT be tested come playoff time. They can
only hope that they DON"T have to run into the NFC South this year!

Pansy schedule? Who in the NFC has a tough one?

Now we have a receiver. I would love to see the Bucs come up here again. I hope they make the playoffs.

well actually you all DID play Pitt...and we all know how much of a help TO was in that game! We will find
a way to the playoffs, and then you all can set up Rocky again and we can take him and your stadium behind
    the wood shed!

Brooks would break TO in half....the guy would be scared *hitless. McNad is just another moving target
for us. You know in the back of your minds you aint the greatest in football until you beat the bucs! I don't
even think the taste of rings would cover up that bad taste in your mouth of getting shut out and destroyed
in the first game at your new digs.

It was the NFC Championship game that hurt. The opener was just a loss.

I really hope Tampa Bay gets in .... payback is a bee-otch

  • My point is that Penn State and Miami have
always played that cream puff non-conference schedule.

Look what's happened to Penn State now that they've
entered the Big Ten. How are they doing ?

How's Miami, Fla doing now that they've entered the ACC ?

Oh, no more Rutgers to deal with anymore, so both teams
    aren't doing as well.

If Penn State had been in the Big Ten all these years, they'd
have no national championships. Ohio State and Michigan
    would have lit them up.

If Miami, Fla had been in the SEC all these years, ditto.

I understand your points but disagree with them. However I think discussing hypotheticals is a waste of time, not only with sports history but with almost all history. It is much more interesting and worthwhile to reflect on the past as it was, discuss the present and try to forecast the future.

Just prior to opening day kick-off for a tavern pool...

I submitted ; Wild card bonus teams St. Louis and Oakland, Champ games, NE over Denver, Phil over Seattle, and NE 31 Phil 20 in the superbowl.
Still looks possible, for the superbowl at least .

Someone started a thread before the season began asking for everyone's Super Bowl prediction. I can't find it using the search function for some reason. I am obliged to stand by my prediction made before the season began...

    REMATCH:

    New England vs. Carolina
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.
