Braddick: is this Morgan AG03 or FA02?

Pat:

This is one of the most delightfully original and problem-free low grade Morgans I've seen in a long time. It even has the slightly 'crusty' surface that silver coins get when they've been sitting around for a long time... plus it's a CC date I still need!

The seller called it an AG03, but I think the reverse will make it an FA02 at PCGS. What do you think?

I'd go fair on that... too much wear on the reverse.

I would also say fair. Very nice, original coin. Congrats on the purchase. I still need a few CCs, too.

Dennis, tough call. It could go either way. The reverse is a low end FR02 and darned close to a PO01 - if the motto was more worn, it would be all the way there. The obverse, though worn, is a low end AG03...the wear is closer to FR02 but the LIBERTY is pretty strong on the headband. As a betting man, I'd say:

FR02 70% chance
AG03 30% chance

Here's my PO01 but I think its undergraded and should probably be a FR02 (just as a point of comparison):

With what Craig stated, I'd add I personally believe it is textbook FA02 as it has the exact surfaces PCGS looks for to honor that grade. No where near PO01, but certainly much wear away from AG03.

Personally, I'd call it Fair-02... but it's close to AG03.

By the way, I think you got a bargain!
