Some Craptacular Grades in! (Great Turnaround time, at least)

1 21774031 1915-D 25C USA AU55
2 21774032 1834 50C Small Date, Sm Let USA Damage
3 21774033 1880 $5 USA AU55
4 21774034 1874-S T$1 Chop Mark USA Damage

All came back exactly as expected except for the Trade Dollar, which I'm sort of perplexed about, it's chopped but I definately didn't see any tooling or other damage on it - Oh well. The 50c was submitted because the seller advertised that it would slab at PCGS or NGC 'without a problem' but I was sure it wouldn't due to the rim dings, it didn't image (It's okay Bunker, I bought it expecting it not to).

More importantly though, this economy submission was entered in on 10/22/04 and is already back!

Thems I have plenty of, it's the legitimately holed moderns that are hard to find image

I don't think PCGS or NGS ever slab trade dollars, (or any other coin), with chop marks no matter how nice they might look. They consider it Damage.

I've heard that they do slab chopped trade dollars; though I have never seen one myself. Perhaps you're right. Regardless, I only collect chopped trade dollars (For historical value), so I guess if that's the case I just won't have any PCGS certified trade dollars in my collection!

That was in the past. PCGS over a year ago started grading chopmarked trade dollars.

dthigpen, you are not supposed to put your own chopmarks on them, only Chinese guys can do itimage-------------BigE

If the trade dollar has a chop that they don't think was done in the Orient, PCGS will bodybag it. I have an 1876-S with a drill type mark that they wouldn't slab.

    Got a picture?

I'll scan it when it gets back from PCGS and post it here. That's probably the case though, TDN, as I don't remember any significant scratches in the fields or whatnot. Oh well.

Nevermind, I found a picture, bad lighting though so you can't see the vertical line connecting the two horizontals in the chop too well.

Here's a poor quality photo I had that shows the chop shape better:

Wasn't that coin on ebay not too long ago? My thoughts at the time were that it was not an authentic Chinese chop.... apparently PCGS thought the same. Sorry.

I picked it up off Ebay a couple months ago, fortunately didn't pay too much for it. I had my own doubts at the time about whether or not the chop was authentic. Regardless, still a nice looking Trade Dollar example with great detail. It shall be added as an honorary member of my holed coin collection image (No, I'm not going to drill it).
