Who are the tokens collectors here?

What kind of tokens do you collect? Pics would be neat too. Tokens are sometimes, IMO, a lot of the time cooler looking than just regular U.S coins. Any tokens.image

  • I've picked up a few French jeton's recently. These things are so cool, the artwork and detail on some are incredible and most can be picked up pretty cheap. I've probably overpaid for some of mine (no priceguide), but could care less.

As far as U.S. tokens, I only own a couple CWT's but have been thinking about getting into HT tokens on a limited basis. What's a good book for those?

I am a pretty strong token collector within my pre set boundries. I don't and can't collect everything concerning tokens because all Iwould have would be a hodge poge. One really should collect with a purpose.

I collect political Hard Times tokens, presidental campaign tokens, almost all from the 19th century, and selected Civil War tokens. I deal in Civil War tokens and could help you with the others if you supply me with a want list.

I also have collected a few medals, mostly the series that awared to heroes of the Amercian Revolutionary War, Cometia Americana.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
  • I'm interested in Alaska tokens - there are so many that it could be a full-time pursuit. I'm also considering authenticated Civil War tokens, but regardless of what type you're interested in its a fascinating part of our history. image

  • Mostly Merchant tokens from my local area, but I am likely to buy anything that I find interesting.

  • I collect CWTs and some Condors. I also collect Presidential Medals - 19th Century and anything related to coin dealers - I have several Philadelphia Coin dealer medels/tokens from the 1850-70s whose names escape me at the moment (Mickley or Ickard or something like that)
Collecting eye-appealing Proof and MS Indian Head Cents, 1858 Flying Eagle and IHC patterns and beautiful toned coins.

I collect many different tokens including Indiana good-fors, telephone, transportation, tax,
amusement, maverick good-fors, good luck, and advertising. I used to collect a lot more but
have started specializing. Only the telephone token collection really stands out and it includes
many that aren't listed in the catalogs. This might be the ideal geographical location to find
these since it's so close to where most were used. They often appear at garage sales and
flea markets around here. The transportation collection has some extremely rare varieties and
condition rarities but few rare types. Amusement tokens have been the cheapest to assemble.
I don't think one has ever cost more than 25c and most were acquired through trade.

I do a lot of trading to build my collections and it keeps the cost minimal. Postage is actually
the greatest cost in all of these.

I collect some trade tokens from around the midwest; mainly Kansas, Nebraska, and Missouri. But the area that has really gotten my interest lately has been the patriotic civil war tokens... I only have 5 so far that grade AUBU condition.... but plan to keep collecting them. I find the designs to be very attractive.

I collect Civil War Patriotic and New York Storecards and also Hard Times Tokens. I like Civil War tokens because they haven't been researched to death like most other US series and there is still much information lacking. Although since the forming of the CWT Society a great deal of new interest has been generated and much information has been brought to light in the last few years by its members. CWT's are gaining in popularity daily and rightly so as many discover their beautiful and interesting designs and historical themes. They still can be reasonably purchased if you shop around.
If you do have any interest in these pieces I highly recommend joining the CWT Society as soon as possible.
