In honor of my First pre-1982 Commemorative..post em if you got them!!!

The only Commemorative I can ever remember owning was a 1983 Proof Olympic Silver Dollar in NGC PR69UC....so this is certainly foreign territory for me. I know that scan doesn't give a great idea of what the coin will look like in hand, but it is in a PCGS holder so I am hoping it's nice and with plenty of luster. I will of course have to post a better picture once I get the coin in hand.

So...please post those purdy commemoratives here so we can all drool a little bit more tonight image

Finding a really attractive Layfayette Dollar is quite difficult, especially when it is graded MS-63 or less. This one is a PCGS MS-63.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
  • So stunning examples so far.....I am a bit suprised that some of these circulated enough to make it down to FR02, but I guess that happens with everything released from the mint at some point.

I believe my next coin will be an Oregon as I saw an MS64 yesterday and almost pulled the trigger. I'd like to find one with a little toning and the one I saw was blast white so I will have to play it by ear for now.

Keep them coming folks....I know a lot of you own them, and this kinda helps some of us build our Christmas lists image

Bill, that Lafayette is really purdy. I've been looking for one like that for a long time and I agree, they aren't easy to come by.

Here's a nice example of the Hawaiian, which is viewed as "the king of the old commemorative half dollars." This piece is an NGC MS-64.

The Isabella Quarter is one of my favorite commemorative coins. It's the only U.S. coin that features a foreign monarch, and I've always found the design pleasing. This is a fully original PCGS MS-64.
