Grade this 21-p Walking Half grade posted!

jdimmickjdimmick Posts: 9,743 ✭✭✭✭✭
I picked this coin up the other day , becuase I felt it was a little undergraded. It currently resides in a PCGS Holder.

What do you grade it or what would you feel comfortable buying this coin as grade wise?

PCGS Good-6

Okay, folks, I don't mean this as a challenge; I mean this as an educational opportunity for myself.

I called it G-6, though admittedly I was thinking borderline VG-8. And at these grades this coin is worth a premium over nominal technical grade, IMO, because it's so nicely colored, original-looking and problem-free.

But...I'm looking at the detail and comparing it to stuff like Photograde and the ANA standards and such, and I can't possibly see more than VG-8 on this one going strictly off the detail.

Yet so many of you are seeing solid VG-8, VG-10 and even F-12 that there must be some nuances to grading Walkers that I don't see. Or maybe I just terminally SUCK at grading well-circulated Walkers.

    So...educate me. image

I think it is probably graded as a VG-8. But saying that I'll agree that it could upgrade to F-12 on the right day and right grader. Reason being that it is orginal key date coin with no damage. And the fact that the early dates are known to be weak strikes. And last but not least it's a dam pretty coin.

solid, problem free, vg. A touch away from fine. If it were mine and I was offering for sale, I'd probably try to get fine money owing to the unavailability of problem free key date coins in the "market."

“I believe in intuitions and inspirations. I sometimes feel that I am right. I do not know that I am. When two expeditions of scientists, financed by the Royal Academy, went forth to test my theory of relativity, I was convinced that their conclusions would tally with my hypothesis. I was not surprised when the eclipse of May 29, 1919, confirmed my intuitions. I would have been surprised if I had been wrong.”

    Thanks yall,

The coin grades Good-6. I thought it should be in a Vg-8 holder. I have spent a few months looking for 21-p and D halves for some local folks, and this coin looked undergraded IMO. The only thing that I can think why PCGS graded it a good-6 was for the slight weakness at the top of the 19. I was going to list on the bay here in the next day or so, and was hoping that I could leave it in the PCGS good 6 holder and it sell on its own merits in the Vg price range, where it should be.
