Coin storage

Hi,

What is the best way to store a coin? I don't use TPG's but I like their holders. Is
there a way to get a nice holder like that? Are cardboard/paper holders unsafe to
use? Thanks.

  • Bruce, I recommend only 2 options for raw coins: 2X2 Saflip (non-pvc) or Eagle brand holders. Nothing else is satisfactory imho.

Whitman plastic holders. (Except for odd sizes like 1/2 cent or gold, then safeflips or eagle holders).

  • for early coppers, it's okay to use paper envelopes with cotton liners, but only if the coins are not going to be transported much.

  • I'll back up Haletj on the 2x2 Whitman Plastic Holders. I am building a high grade Lincoln Cent set and I have several hundred coins housed in these holders (link is below).

These holders may be a bit more expensive than the flips that you staple....but it seals the coin MUCH better IMHO. Plus, these holders make for a much better presentation.

    Good luck with it...

P.S. If you are housing a bunch of coins in these holders, you can also purchase Eagle holder album pages that hold 20 of the Whitmans per page. That way you don't have to store them in boxes where you can't see each coin.
