TSNS Live Show Report (with images) - Final Update (cops & aurora borealis)
Well, it's a live report, but probably a bit later than it should have been. It was a VERY busy show, so I had little time to play around on the forum. I am posting this on Sunday at 11 AM since the traffic is very light today, as you can tell from the image posted below.
We had a fantastic show overall, although 90% of our business was done on Thursday and Friday. That is surprising since the road to the convention center was closed due to flooding for the first 2 days. There was a detour, so the public found there way to the show. I heard that the show had a record attendance, despite the flooding. We bought a lot of new material and we sold more than we expected. Prices were strong on both ends. Most deals were done at well over bid on classic numismatic material (pre-1916). Paper seemed weak to us, however Indian Cents and Flying Eagle Cents seemed unusually strong. The vast majority of our retail sales involved early type, with draped bust and large size bust quarters and dimes being particularly strong. Yadda, yadda, market is hot, blah, blah, blah.
The best part of the show was talking to the locals and chatting with forum members. There were not many forum members at the show, but the ones that did come were very cool and friendly. On Saturday we met with cmanbb, fc57coins, tassa and joeholt. In fact, all 4 of them were at our table at the same time and we managed to get everyone to pose for a picture (see below). Tassa lived up to her reputation as a lovely young lady. Although I must admit that I was a bit shocked when she pulled one of MadMarty's Cook Island coins out of her purse. MadMarty's bad influence apparently has no bounds.
fc57coins (Frank da' pug) stopped by with Tassa and it was nice to finally meet him. Very nice guy. He's on the far right in the pic. We also chatted for quite awhile with cmanbb, who is a very knowledgeable numismatist. It was a pleasure hearing his stories and muses of the past 20 or so years in the hobby/business. We also spent a good deal of time talking with member joeholt. His real name is Joe Holt, although you would never know that from his obscure forum I.D. We tried to talk Joe into going to dinner with us, but he does not eat sea food, let alone sushi. Chattanooga has one of the best sushi restaurants that I have been to, although I would never of expected that. So good was the food that we went 2 nights over the weekend. Tassa and fc57coins left early, so they were not able to go to dinner. Chattanooga was an "interesting" town. Overall I really enjoyed my stay. The weather was fantastic, as was the scenery. The people were especially friendly. Sometimes the Southerners are bit too friendly for us Yankees. We are just not use to the hospitality of the South, but it's very welcome. We went to a couple of night clubs on Friday and had a great time. The women are unbelievably friendly and really beautiful. (if my wife is reading this, I sat in a corner and did not talk to anyone
). Well, that's about it. Here are some images from the show:

This is a view of the front door to the convention center. I guess that the other doors are for decoration only. It was fun watching how many people stopped, read the sign, then opened the adjacent door.

It was not BAD, should I tell TASSA that you just bought one!!

I also heard about Fred's untimely departure. It was the buzz of the show on Saturday - a sad thing indeed.
Hope to see you all soon

The folks at JadeRareCoin are the best. One thing I truly enjoy at shows is finding the time to "talk coins" and they were very informative
and generous with their time. Hope to see you guys & gals again soon.
Sorry that I am late in adding this last post. Just been busy. On Sunday, another forum member stopped by to say hi. He is SamInGeorgia on the boards, but he doesn't post much. Very nice guy. He asked us if we were interested in buying his used flips, but we respectfully passed.
He posed with Andrew Reiber, who is the owner of Jade Rare Coin. Andrew is on the left (tall guy), and same is on the right.
I also had a pleasant surprise waiting for me when I crossed the Michigan state line at midnight: The Aurora Borealis, a.k.a "The Northern Lights". If you have never seen the Aurora Borealis, then you must make it a point to one day witness this magnificent natural phenomenon. The "lights" were exceptionally strong that evening. I actually pulled over and tried to shoot some video and managed to get a couple of minutes on film before getting questioned by a Michigan State Trooper. When I told him what I was doing, he looked at me like I was a total nut job.

Are you sure that was because you were filming the aurora borealis?

Tassa, was that like a half-slap? I did, btw, tell him that I was a coin dealer. Maybe that's why he walked away shaking his head.

so exactly what or how did you convince him of otherwise?? Or did he just give up and drive off?

He asked me if I had been drinking, if I had drugs in the car, illegal weapons, etc. He could see that I had my video camera (my Canon digital camera) and then I pointed to the sky. He looked at me like I was a total loser then just told me to get back on the road.

Maybe that's just for the Northern Lights...
Hope you have a good show in Boston, and hope to see you all again!
I thought you said that camera would make me tall, dark, and handsome!!!
Sam, if I had a camera that did that I would be a rich man. Actually, you and Andy owe me $400 for a new camera as it broke immediately after taking that picture.
BTW, it was a sad show due to the fact that a dealer, Fred Hiatt, passed away at the very young age of 53, as mentioned by BaltimoreCoinConv.
