Nothing fishy about it. These are very common in mint state red. You have to get at least into the 1930s, I would bet, to find a date more common in mint state red condition than the 1909 VDB.
Now add an 'S' mint mark, on the other hand, and they're still fairly common, but MUCH more pricey.
I wish the 66 went for $250. I just sold one in a rattler for only $150. Sucks because I had paid $250 for it a month or so before on e-bay when the picture was blurry. I relisted with clearer pictures and added the coin did have carbon spots on it so now I'm out a hundred plus bucks. I hate being honest.
Cardsfan, Sorry about your team.....and that 66 Lincoln. I'll tell you, I , for one, am getting sick of the 'trick photography' on eBay Lincolns......I have a similar story to yours with a 72/72. I even asked the seller before I bid if the coin had any spots !!! I lost a hundred with an auction and accurate pictures. Why would someone be dishonest to get, what amounts to, a couple extra dollars? I don't understand that kind of thinking..... Paul
Beav, Time will hopefully heal the wounds (at least for my baseball team). I wish I would been smart enough to ask the seller about the condition of the coin I bought. I just took a chance, which I do alot on e-bay. Sometimes it pays off sometimes you get screwed. In your case I would have definitely demanded refund since he lied to you.
