It has not been cleaned or re-colored. My beef was a few month ago when I sold a NGC AU-58 half cent to a EAC guy. I had good pics. He said it was no better than VF-20 when he received it and did not agree with NGC's grade. Hello!!! When did he ever see a market graded coin comply to EAC standards. He returned the coin. I had to do this auction or he might come back to haunt me
I then re-sold the coin with no reserve and it brought $40 more than the last time. The buyer was happy.
Believe it or not sometimes we DO agree with the slab grade. In rare cases we have even graded a coin HIGHER than the slab. (Usually is cases where the service has graded it low because they are not familiar with the characteristics of the particular variety.)

Cameron, I am the EAC secret police. We've already taken away your diploma for "Coins of the First U.S. Mint" and I'm looking into having the YN of the Year award yanked. You don't yet realize the full power of EAC.
Additionally, I've taken your final exam from my 2000 ANA seminar class and net graded it. You're now scudzy.
...
A good example of a coin that would be graded higher by EAC is any cent called "MS-64 RD." If it's really red (not dipped), and isn't all screwed up with spots or kegmarks, it's a 65. Period. By the same standard, most MS-66 BN cents earn a MS-60 or MS-60+ grade. It's the 66 BNs that are really 55s that get our collective EAC goat.
<< <i>I've never met a EAC guys who ever agreed to a slabbed grade but I can see how there might be a few coins like that. >>
how many eac guys have you met??? on coins in lower grades, say ag - fine, the chances of eac grade agreeing w/ the market grade goes up, i'd say in the upper grades, where market grading has suffered from gradeflation, the eac grade is liable to be much more realistic than the market grade.
otoh mr. sampleslabs, you overgraded that large cent even by MARKET standards imo. it only grades vf-30.
don't bother applying at pcgs for a grading job, my boy.
Hmmm. I am surprised that nobody has commented on the fact that the 1853 Cent has been tooled in the left obverse field. Ironically, it probably only would grade as EAC G-4.
Furthermore, as an EAC member in good standing, I am filing a grievance with the ANA, PNG, AAA and the Home for Wayward Kittens against Cameron for his libelous comments against our fine organization.
Looks like verdigris removed mechanically, then recolored. Seen this many times before. I still wouldn't mind owning it. What's G-4 bid?
Since Cammie is getting so much hassle over his coin, I think that I have to buy it now. It is my numismatic duty to purchase the coin, then have it destroyed so that it will not be sold in the future as a problem-free coin. Hmmmm. Maybe I will donate it to the EAC Museum as an example of modern day gradeflation.......
Big bid placed........ If I win it, should I submit it to PCGS to see what they say????
Why would you bid that much on that coin? I told you that it has been tooled and recolored. It's a 100% body bag at any grading service. Please retract your bid NOW!!
Geez guys, just let it die if its such a bad coin. I meant to have some fun with the auction and not get everyone in a tizzy. I have nothing against EAC guys but when they bid on slabbed coins, knowing it won't grade to what they want, and then complain thats my "beef". I don't think its re-colored.

I grade Cameron's coin. it grades "Fred" under BS standards.
in "Fred", the coin is worth exactly the same as "market" or pcgs/ngc/anacs 30, or EAC 12, and is worth about 30-40.

Where did you learn how to grade -- a box of Cracker Jacks? It looks like it would go "Clyde" to me. Stop it with the gradeflation already!
