The Update After The First Show..... GREGTHEGREAT

Hey there all....

Many of you guys told me to post an update in here after my first show......

It went pretty well. I learned a lot about my customers and found out the stuff I need more of and the stuff I need to dump on the internet. I made out pretty well at the first show, I had about $350 in sales and a little under half of that was profit. I sold out of a lot of my merchendise and I made a lot of new contacts. I was one of the hotter tables at the place and one of the guys who always dispayed there got kinda mad that I was selling more then him. image We were friends in the end. I was hoping to run another show in the lower NW of IN next weekend but do not have enough stuff to be able to turn a good enough profit.

I am looking to buy again so feel free to e-mail me with any stuff you have for sale.... gavitpltw@yahoo.com

I thank all of you that gave me advise in the last month or so.... I just wanted to let you know I did fine and am looking to many more shows.

Thanks Again Everyone,

-Greg U

    Greg,
I'm glad to hear your initial show went well and your instincts were right about what kind of material will sell. Best of luck to you.

    hey Greg

i'm glad it went well for you and i think the fact that your beginning was rather humble will turn out to be a good thing. the customers are really the ones who tell you what to have in the cases and it sounds like your's have talked and you heard them.

Is that after paying for your table at the show? How much time did you spend buying and preparing for the show? Just curious to see what you made per hour.

Congrats and hope you do even better next time.

    Hey Greg,

Glad to hear your happy with your first show. Don't let the negative guys rattle you too much. Doesn't matter what you made. My guess is that you're 16 or 17 years old. At that age it takes a lot of courage to set up at a show and compete against experienced dealers. Keep your focus on the long term. Every show you go to, every deal you buy, you'll learn a little bit more and make a little bit more. Before you know it you'll be having $3,500 shows and it will only grow from there. Even though Cameron has given you a hard time he's a good example. When he started doing sample slabs lots of people laughed at him. Now he has created a nice little niche for himself and is making something of it. Hope you can do the same with whatever you deal in.

Thanksimage I was giving him a hard time in fun after that initial "do you have free flips" post. I have talked with GregTheGreat via pm and he is a nice guy. I've offered to help as a sounding board for his ideas or give advice as many of the board members would also be willing to do.

That's $175 more than I made that day - now you can re-invest it in some new inventory and make $350 the next time.

  • When I started out I re-invested all of my take into additional coins and now I have a much larger inventory and sell much more at shows. Build it right and with the right stuff and you can do well.
  • Greg, im glad you posted an update, i've been waiting for one.image Congrats on earning a profit at your first show, quite an accomplishment. Good luck with all your other shows. I look forward to hearing an update.image

  • I have read all your guys comments and deeply thank all of you for the nice words....

My next show I think is November 28th. (I am not registed yet because I sold a lot of inventory at the last show) and I am not going to register until I can get more "stuff". I think my table cost at the next show is around $50 and I need to make sure I have enough inventory to be able to turn a good profit before I register.

Thanks again everyone for all the nice words.

    -Greg Ullstam

P.S. I seen a comment in the thread about if the table fee was considered into the profit.... yes I subtracted the table fee from my profit. My exact total profit was $172.78

I look forward to growing over the next few months and years.

    Thanks again everyone.
