1921 - A Year of Beautiful U.S. Coinage

I was thinking about how crappy a modern mint set is compared to coins of the teens, 20s, and 30s. 1921 was a standout year. You've got the beautiful AAW designed mercury dime and walking liberty half. You've got the awesome buffalo nickel and standing liberty quarter. (I'm starting to sound like the guy on Coin Vault). Finally, you've got two amazing dollar coins (Peace and Morgan). Too bad the indian head cent was out. Anyway, can you think of a particular year when a handful of change would have been beautiful?

  • I agree, the 20s was the golden age for US coinage. Adolph A. Weinman's sculpture is largely responsible for that IMO. Russia had nice coinage before the revolution as well.

Well I can go along with 1921 but the real banner year during the 20th century was 1916. Just look at what you could get. Sorry no dollars though.

    Look at the 1921 year!

Fabulous rarities in all three walkers with the 1921-S srill being very affordable in Good or Very Good conditions.

Fabulous rarity in the 1921 Saint.

Solid scarities in the 1921 and 1921-D mercs.

The 1921 and 1921-S buffalos are no slouches.

TWO different silver dollar designs in 1921!

    I could go on!

Rodney Dangerfield was born in 1921! He got no respect either!

So many scarcities - due to a rather poor economic year. The coins were sure nice to look at, tho.
